Yesterday, my first day off, was exercise day or that is how it turned out.

First was the ride up to Morongo Valley to hike down the canyon trail at Big Morongo Nature Preserve, a world class bird viewing as well as bighorn sheep viewing area. I went to look for bighorns, as I am known as the "bighorn whisperer" to some on the net, unfortunately I didn't see one but I did make a video telling some of my "secrets."

It occurred to me that some might want to hear one of those "secrets," okay here is one. When you are out in bighorn country, always look if you hear a rockfall. Usually that will be one of the few times you can quickly spot one, maybe even a small herd. It also could be a mountain lion, another reason to look at the sound.

It was real work hauling my camera and tripod up and down the canyon.

Here is a screenshot of the hike, same one as today but from a year ago, for some reason my GPS did not work for Viewranger or U.S.Topo gps tracking apps yesterday. Grrrrrrrrrr.

The elevation gains, exact route are all the same but mine yesterday was slower due to carrying the equipment plus stopping and setting up the tripod for each shot or video. I was out there over 4 hours total.

I was a bad boy, food wise. Breakfast was the Carls Jr Big Country burrito with their hash brown potatoes and coffee.

Dinner last night was extremely tasty carnitas, chicharron, 3 corn tortillas, avocado slices and a killer spicey avocado salsa from El Toro in Santa Ana, California. El Toro carnitas are the best around here! I ate the evidence, sorry no food porn pics! Trust me, this food would make you "cry happy." You taste it and it is so good, it makes you want to cry.

After that food orgy, I felt like I needed more exercise to help digest it so I hopped on my exercycle and rode it for 57 minutes, going 11.01 miles and burning up 404 calories. Guess I didn't get enough exercise in the canyon. My legs felt stiff when I got on the bike but were fine when I got off. They are only a little stiff this morning. Not bad for a 61 year old who used to get stoved up just at the thought of getting out and exercising.

I can almost feel the heat. I love that kind of terrain. Reminds me of the Okanagan valley in southern BC where my parents live. It's a desert as well.

I needed a camera man yesterday, wish you had been there with me! I would have carried the gear but it is nice to have someone at the camera to help frame and get the video.

When you guys are ever here in socal, drop me a line. I'll provide the wheels and we can get in in a hike! Luckily it was only about 79 or 80 degrees F up there yesterday. I have hiked that canyon when it was about 105 F and that was a real killer!
