A warning to first time Ketoers. The keto flu transition phase can last up to 6 weeks, especially if you're a keto noob, and if you cheat during the transition phase, add a week for every day you cheat. Your body will go through violent carb withdrawal symptoms and the cravings will get serious. Your mind will play mental tricks on you in a desperate attempt to convince you to cheat on your keto diet, but don't give in to the temptations. You're stronger than your urges.

There will be many things that you'll experience while the transition phase is in process. Your skin will overdry, you'll break out pimples, you'll dream about carbs and wake up smelling carb pancakes drenched in carb and sugar maple syrup from the kitchen, but in reality you don't really have a wife or pancake batter.

You will drool at the sight, smell, or even thought of anything containing carbs. Your mind will play tricks on you like a devil's advocate. You'll get very creative and make all kinds of excuses as to why you should eat some carbs. You might even hit a breaking point and cry while drinking water and day dream about eating pecans and praline ice cream.

Word of advice? Be strong and walk through the fire anyways. The pain is only temporary. The only way to know the truth for yourself is to take that risk and make it to the other side with the rest of us.

I changed my own life through my own due diligence via personal research. I browsed and read many upon many scholarly articles, books, orientations, lectures, and applied only the relevant to my life. It's not like I jumped into this overnight. I'm a military veteran and go to a VA hospital, but my doctor is fat. See the irony there?

But yea, to answer your question, after doing enough thorough research online. I began to take that leap of faith and went against mainstream advice against doing the keto diet. Guess what? I didn't regret it at all.

Keto=Ketogenic=Atkins=Banting circa 1800's....so no it's not new, you just have to understand Why....and How we store body fat..Once you understand that, reversing it is easy. Check out DietDoctor.com Dr. Andreas' site has become a central repository of information from various sources. Videos to watch: Dr. Robert Lustig "The Skinny on Obesity", check out Dr. Jason Fung also....

Yeah, I found out about the fructose conspiracy via Dr. Robert Lustig's lectures. He explains the science behind why fructose is junk to your body. He also explains the similarities between fructose and alcohol, deeming "fructose is just alcohol without the 'buzz'," which is true since they both break down similarly in the liver, unlike glucose.

LOL. No wife or batter!! You're funny. I take my son to counseling Wednesday nights and we always drive through McDonald's. I used to eat it. Months ago. But tonight? Just The smell of his food made me ILL. A happy ill though...surprising albeit but satisfying nonetheless. Went home and had more spinach "pizza". Diggin it.

Meh, spinach pizza don't sound very appealing to me. I think I'm allergic to spinach, there was an article I read a long time ago saying spinach contains high amounts of anti-nutrients and Oxalic acid. Oxalates bind to calcium and prevent its absorption in the human body. So yeah, I don't do spinach. Lettuce? Maybe.

For the record..I think you looked great when larger sized too. But we all have to follow our dreams..and do what makes us happy. And I congratulate you on your hard work and making your dream come true. I think you would make an awesome personal trainer..because unlike many personal trainers out there who never had to deal with a serious weight issue..and therefore lack empathy and just push people like robots..you can actually look into a persons eyes and see their pain and understand it. That in itself is a rare gift..and I think you are using it wisely to inspire and encourage others here. Great job my brother..and keep moving forward. Namaste. (◕‿-)

PJBear_, thanks for the compliment! But looking great and feeling great are two different things. Just because I look great on the outside doesn't mean I wasn't seriously sick and in pain on the inside. I'm not really a personal trainer type, even though I do personally weight train twice a week. I try not to go overboard on the fitness thing. I mostly give advice on nutrition because the reason someone is obese isn't because they lacked physical activity, but they lacked dietary vigilance or nutritional understanding. You're right, anyone that hasn't been through the pain of being overweight shouldn't be giving advice. I've been obese, I felt horrible every day, it was also painful. I felt sluggish, easily tired by midday, and absolutely no energy to do anything fun. My perception of life was like "please kill me now." But now I see life in a whole new light. I was lost but now I'm found.

My whole motto in life is "efficiency in all things you do." Nutritional Ketosis is the most efficient diet to lose body fat I have ever discovered (the most logically sound too, and I'm a very logical guy.) This is why I don't believe that fitness is the answer to losing bodyfat. Fitness is also the most inefficient method to losing bodyfat. It boggles my mind that every year, millions jump in the gym at the beginning of January and try to lose fat through an obsolete method, and when they see mediocre or no results, or even worse, plateau, they wonder what went wrong! You can't fix an eating problem with exercise. I don't care how you spin it. Seriously, I have proven everyone that has doubted the LCHF diet wrong, even the ones who are still overweight. Oh, and I just hate it when I see some skinny guy who has been skinny his whole life tell an obese person how to lose weight. I'm like "really? Have you ever been obese? Do you even know what it's like to be that fat?" So yeah. lol
