I hope the New Year that has just started is treating you well and that you will achieve whatever goals you set for yourself.

I can't bring myself to log the food I eat now, after an absence of two weeks from FS. It doesn't mean that I won't keep on counting calories! but it is time consuming to do it here when I can keep track of what I eat as easily offline. Besides, I took resolutions to get more things done, which means I will have to limit the time I spend online. However, raising my middle finger to Facebook will ensure I'll still be able to write long and verbose entries here :) and thus cultivate the interactions and friendship with FS buddies.

Trying out other diets like low carb, paleo, etc isn't on my list of priorities either as I find limiting the amount of calories I ingest to 1400 is easy and efficient enough to lose weight. And it is also the only sustainable way to do so in the long term.

Due to the weather, as Britain is being battered by rain and storms at the moment, I can't run as often as I'd like too but I have been compensating by going to the gym and swimming one day out of two. And when I say compensating, it's been more than that as I found I burn more calories that way than just by running :) The one thing I miss at the gym and at the swimming pool is the closer interaction with nature that I get when running outdoors. Hopefully, the weather will improve and I will be able to resume my observations of the plants and the wildlife that cross my path on my runs.

Great post -- you've found a way of eating that's easy to follow and account for and that's working well for you on a long-term basis . . . I'm with you in that the best venue for exercise is nature, but good on you for settling for activity in the 'not-as-great indoors'!

The best diet is the one you can stay with. Sounds like you have found the right one for you.

What matters most is what you can do that keeps your life working and not adds any kind of additional stress. We all have to eat, and it's great when we can figure out HOW best to do that :)

I took myself off of FB too and have not looked back. Looks as if you have a plan that works for you, and that is what counts. Like you, I believe my outdoor exercise is a little more beneficial than indoor exercise, mainly because it helps with digestion, I try to breathe deeply, enjoy nature and see my neighbors. Buts have set up what I call a lady cave so that I am without excuse when the weather is inclement. Enjoyed your post.

Thank you for your comments and thoughts. I am finding this site to be considerably more friendly than Facebook where people seem to be not only self-obsessed but also mainly concerned with peddling rubbish and negativity at each other :( LISfifty: I had heard of man cave before but never lady cave :D Do you mean you have set up a gym in your basement?

I do love FB but....this is now the FIRST place I go every time I login! That says a lot, right? ;)

Zaza_gabor - You guessed it! The lady cave is my feminine exercise room. I have mirrors, vinyl wall art with a motivating message, exercise bands, weights, stationary bike, etc. all in an attempt to get more serious about health and well-being.

Happy New Year to you and your partner. I hope he is well. I am happy you have an effective plan for yourself and I admire that you swim! That is great exercise!

I support your choice for taking time away from online activity as you are celebrating your life and living it. Every moment in every day counts and sometimes you can loose an entire day just getting lost on a computer. I applaud you for disconnecting and taking in the beauty of the world around you. I hope that you enjoy this year and get some great workout in while you are offline. Drop in and say hi from time to time. We all need encouragement and support. When your tank runs a little low come on in for a tune up of support okay.

I really relate to how helpful it is to disengage from Facebook, exercise in nature, and connect with supportive friends on FS. Congratulations on your steady decline in weight.
