Penlan's Journal, 28 December 2015

Back from my walk, I went further and faster than ever before, even though I didn't feel as if I was pushing myself. I go on a fixed route, set an alarm for half way so I know when to turn round and come home. That way I can see improvements.

And now I have to rest to properly recover...... such a hard life ;)

Well done on keeping up your exercise. I usually try to walk as fast as I can, but some days if I have more time, I do one of my routes, but slower, so that I can enjoy the scenery. It's a whole different experience. I like to take deep breaths and smell everything too, adds an extra dimension!

Yup, I do that too. It's wonderful living in a beautiful rural place, every day is like being on holiday. It's so easy to let that slip by in the daily bustle and I do make a point to stop and wonder at the beauty around me and enjoy the clear clean air. We have our own land here, about 20 acres, with lakes we can boat on in the summer and a river down the bottom. The once field by the river has naturalised into a sort of temperate rainforest with ferns growing in the trees and ivy draping down like vines. It's a wonderfully secluded space to go and sit and just be, especially in the summer. And it's just a couple of minutes walk down from the house.... truly a heaven on earth. And if we go up instead of down we are blessed with big skies and a panoramic view of the foothills of the Cambrian mountains. We can be walking up there above the tree line in just a few minutes drive. What's not to love every day, life is good.
