I LOVE WEDNESDAYS !!!

WHY YOU MIGHT ASK???
Because it is Farmer's Market day. For about 20 bucks I got more than enough stuff to last until next week.

Fresh sweet corn picked today
A huge head of cabbage to make stuffed cabbages this weekend
onions
heirloom tomatoes of several varieties
zucchini squash
green beans
a few peaches (yes, picked this am as it is peach season around here)
potatos
rainbow chard
eggs
cranberry & flax multigrain bread (baked this morning)
some natural grass feed ground beef (having it for supper tonight)

If you have a local farmers market, visit it. Prices are usually way lower than the store, the produce is fresher, you get to meet your local farmers and purveyors. The bumper sticker motto around here is
"NO FARMS - NO FOOD"

I guess I need to do a larger shop before the hurricane hits this weekend and it looks like we will get hit. The last time this happened the neighbors said they lost power for about 11 days. Got plenty of propane for the grill, making ice now for the coolers if needed. Probably will pick up a battery operated radio and stock up on water since if we lose power our well pump will not be working so we won't have any water to drink or flush the toilet.

Hope you are all doing well.

Please stock up on all things you require and be safe! I used to go to the local farmers market here but since my mom planted a garden and cannot keep up with the produce I have been taking her stuff for her, I love the fresh produce nothing compairs to it.

Pixi- I have a little garden but by no means do I plant the variety that the farmers market has. I have lots of herbs, some tomato plants and squash. The racoons are thoroughly enjoying my tomatos this year! Maybe I will get to pick off the ones at the top of the plants once they rippen...hee-hee (I love sharing with the local wildlife.)

Babs, your Farmer's Market produce purchases sound wonderful! I know you'll enjoy them all - especially if you're not contending with Irene! Be sure you stock up on necessities and make sure you have adequate medication supplies. Have a good evening!

Stay safe Babs, we were watching Emily very closely in FL but it is passing us to the east, lots of wind here today, no rain yet. You enjoy all those healthy pickings and batten down the hatches.
