good morning peeps. well jim is a happy little teddy. Didn't go for a run on Thursday, as I was working a late shift I wasn't in until after lunch so just played tennis in the afternoon. Got up Friday morning, legs stiff, back tight, bum cheeks stiff (I am sure you all wanted to know that)thought I don't fancy this run at all, its going to hurt but guess what, yep your right, best run since I got back. Ran further, no problem with the breathing and to be honest could have gone a lot further. Just plodding along listening to some old skool music, now for me old skool is the 70's an 80' lots od durran durran, human league bit of deep purple, bronski beat etc. Off for the next three days, eldest daughter has booked a meal in a posh restaurant for the whole family (I think its everyone) for sunday night. Its my 25th wedding anniversary on Monday, but she is being secret about it and wont tell me any information. The 2 of us were just going to a local eatery. Must admit my wife deserves more than a meal for putting up with me and my tantrums for 25 years. I know you are all thinking "how on earth did he find somebody daft enough to live with him for 25 years" "some people never learn" So its shopping as I suppose my missus will want a new frock, and shoes, and handbag, and jewellery. What is it with women, blokes go out to buy a shirt and that's all they buy, women go out and it doesn't matter if they are looking for a bag, they come back with everything, they go out to buy shoes and they buy everything and in the case o smettering34 go out and buy WELLIES. Hope you enjoyed your date night jo. I think you might have because I know how much you look forward to them. Well enough ramblings time to go, got to go dress hunting - OH THE JOY

My husband would never go dress hunting with me, and I wouldn't want him to! Glad you enjoyed your run. I trust you stretch before and after? I went hill climbing, just up the hill at the back of the house. Was surprised to find that it made my glutes feel sore. It was pretty steep!

whem we walk uphill it does work the glutes more, them and the quads. I don't stretch before running, the reason being that if you are going for a distance as opposed to a sprint then starting to walk and then going into a gentle jog it works as a dynamic stretch so there is no need to pre stretch. Besides dynamic stretching is better than static stretching, gently get the body warmed up, warm the muscles and the core, gently raise the heart rate up to about 60/70 % of its workload also switches on the motor nerons in the brain and doesn't shock the system. This normally takes me about 5-10 mins dependant on the weather but I never included the warm up in my training time or distance. Must admit I advise everyone to stretch after to help dispel the Lactic Acid but I am one of the worst offenders.

That's interesting, I'll bear that in mind. My physio was telling me the other day that the new thinking is that it's not about lactic acid, more about capillary damage that you do when you exercise. Sounds bad but is normal, and that's what causes the muscle aches. Stretching after is still the best thing to do, though.

they have never really come to a concrete reasons as to muscle soreness afterwards (DOMS) there are a few different theories. One being the Lactic Acid, the other is that the muscle fibres are sill contracting so therefore still working out so to speak. The stretching is basically to help dispel the acid but also it tries to take the muscle fibres back to the normal length, that why developmental stretches are designed to take the muscle fibres past their normal length thereby helping us to become more flexible. I would advise people to stretch every day irrespective if they train or not

Also, congrats on your 25 years! The most important thing is that it sounds like you are both happy 😀

You will be pleased to hear that I bought some nice boots over the weekend too....I don't just strut around in wellies ;). Hope you enjoy the celebration. Hehe I had my silver wedding anniversary last year. But I haven't been with my 'husband' for over 7 years now.

Congrats on your anniversary Dog. Your post made me laugh out loud as I'm one of those women you describe. Mind you my hubby is catching up as we've both lost loads of weight on 5:2 over 4 months and now that he's found his waist again it's costing a fortune. We have a wedding on 5th December and we both need rigged out for that! I love shopping for clothes but not so much into the jewellery. Jeannie

well jennie, I am glad I brought a chuckle to your face. Congratulations on your future wedding hope everything goes well for you. It is difficult to buy jewellery as its such a personal thing. I am into watches and my wife has always wanted to buy me a really expensive one (unfortunately she wont go as far as I Breitling, its only £8000, cant see what the problem is) but she wont because its weird I can like one style one day and then the next something completely different. Are you also one of these women that says "Ohh look we need some curtains" and the all of a sudden its a full re-decoration, new settee and chairs, new carpet or heaven forbid Lets sand the floor boards down, it wont take long, and the when you pass them the sandpaper and paint brush they have a hair appointment. So what started off as new curtains ends up with the whole house being down mainly because the room you have just decorated makes the others look shabby.

jennie I forgot to add - if my last one made you chuckle did you read my latest, it was the aftermath of going shopping and a visit to primark
