Deep breaths. Last night, noticed that fridge doesn’t feel very cold. Whelp, that’s because it’s not. Repairman has been called, but he can’t get here until tomorrow morning. I don’t want a new fridge right now and even if i bought one today that was in stock, they won’t deliver until after the holiday. So, I’m kinda screwed. I have people coming over for NYE, we’ll make it work, but it’s going to be like camping, potentially. Don’t really have a new one in the budget either, but that’s just me whining. Going to hope it’s fixable. It’s holding at around 40 degrees, so the produce is okay for now and I might be out some milk. Or i can just make a gallon of yogurt for the new year. I bought this particular refrigerator under duress with a house full of company over the 4th of July in 2014, so it’s not even 10 years old. Just mad right now. Mini rant over, to be followed by anxiety bouncing in my head because that’s how it works.

I did a ton of yard stuff yesterday and did a longer walk with the pups after dark even though i said i wasn’t going to do that anymore. I wanted to see the Christmas lights before everyone took them down. It’s different seeing them on foot rather than driving by in the car. Today, we work on the house. BF and I are having another date night since he’ll probably be leaving again after the holiday. I miss him, but I’m not going to rob him of this time with his brother while he’s still mentally present. Went through the dementia thing with my grandmother and I get wanting to be there even though you can’t fix it. It’s a horrible, painful thing to bear witness to and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

Let’s see if we can make this a little more upbeat now. The lights were gorgeous on a street I hadn’t made it over to until last night. I also caught a daytime glimpse of this beautiful recycled creation brought to you by the same guy who made those disco balls out of plastic cups and LEDs. She’s lit up at night, but I wanted to catch the daylight version. Blob finally receding.

Is the freezer still cold? Take everything out of the freezer, unplug it, unscrew the panel in the back & take it off. If you see ice, flush it off with hot water or a hair dryer. You should see a whole in the bottom somewhere back there, make sure it is clean of debris. I hope that's your problem & can be a quick temporary fix.

Thanks. Did some troubleshooting with a friend this morning and we both think it’s the temperature sensor and not the compressor. No ice on coils, did check that and the drain pan and used compressed air to clean last night.

Does it have a computer or is it electromechanical?

Sorry about the refrigerator! Hope you are able to get it fixed quickly. It's one of things you can't do without!

It may be the temp sensor. Hope you get it fixed soon! https://youtu.be/Xj2jEaL_D_w?si=A8VBDzQdg72DQVif

It has a stupid computer. it’s a thermal sensor rather than a simple thermostat which I could probably do on my own. I’ll get through. Just mad at the timing.

good luck with the fridge, maybe try the freecycle groups in your town? My friend got several for free before she found one she liked.

Yeah, I need to get through the immediate stuff and then plan for an eventual replacement. No more GE, all three appliances I bought with the house have been problematic. My friends had issues with Samsung, I’ve heard things about LG and their compressors failing to the extent that there’s a class action lawsuit… going to research. I don’t want the fancy internet stuff, just a bottom freezer and door on top. Could even deal with side by side. And nothing that costs as much as my first car. 😵‍💫

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator that I bought for my last house in 1998. Never had one problem. It is now my garage refrigerator. BUT it was the 2nd refrigerator for the last house. The first one, the exact same Whirlpool broke within 2 or 3 months and couldn't be fixed so they gave me the new one. I also remember I was paid about $300 for food that went bad. I bought a small Kenmore refrigerator for this house in 2011. Never a problem. The Maytag washer and dryer, well won't get again.

Yikes on the fridge. Hope it goes well. They just seem to break down so easily these days and then there is no repairing very often

Could be a Freon leak. All new appliances when I moved into my apartment 1 1/2 years ago, GE. They've already replaced the refrigerator and the microwave.

Refrigerators used to last 20-30 years or more, now they cost an arm and a leg and clutter the landfills. It's criminal.

Ah, it looks so warm... *sigh*

And what Shirley said... since the warranty only lasts X number of years, they build them to last X years... 🙄

I hate when Appliances break. I guess we all do. it's fun to have new but it would be more fun if they were free.

Planned attrition. Same with furnaces. Mom’s furnace lasted literally decades. Same with water heater lasted decades and im on my second water heater at her house in 8 years (renters live there now) and had to replace the furnace. Maddening. I feel for you. I had to buy a new refrigerator also at different rental and went with a basic one (less to fail) no ice maker, no water dispenser this time. Hoping this one lasts longer. Good luck kat! There’s just never a right $$ time for these things.
