dog147's Journal, 30 August 2015

boo hoo woe is me. We just got smashed my West Ham at anfield, I am going to be pilloried when I get to work. Hey Karen Leicester did well, Oh well anther day at the office trying to burn of calories and the shame of being beaten by west ham. Most people I work with support Hull KR so at least I will have some come back, only 33 day and 10lb to go before Holidays. For all of you fat secretiers out there who already been on holiday well its my turn to gloat. Laying on a beach getting burnt to a crisp, who could ask for more, and what makes things better is that when we lay down to sunbathe gravity has a great way of making us the same. High five for gravity.

Yes I think lying on my back or even standing up, I'm not too bad. When I sit, however, I AM the Michelin woman, but I was Jabba the Hutt, lol! Bad luck on the footie results, but your day will come!

Well, I look like an egg on legs whatever I'm doing!!!! - Not sure when I'm off again - We're heading over to Portugal to sign the papers for our house soon but not sure of the exact date yet and not sure whether it will be a flying visit or not... That will depend on John's work. Still, this time next year I'll be writing my journals after a day working on our land in the sunshine, after the ducks and chucks are fed, sitting on our patio in the evening sun, perfect peace and quiet with a glass of vino .... Can't wait!!!

ooh Karen well jel that sounds fantastic, assume you will have a little small holding or something? we have chickens but they are just in our back garden, my husband also made a bee hive out of a filing cabinet last year, it worked and we got honey, not lots but still honey :)

hi jo3, sorry I didn't reply but I did write it at 6.30 this morning before I went to work. I will answer your question regarding employment but in another way, I do love to keep people guessing almost right, but not really right ha ha (any good at riddles)???????? Well done with the honey I am impressed. Is everybody on here into "The Good Life"? us olies know what I mean and I am ducking when I say us OLDIES. for kp2605. Not bad result at Bournemouth the way they have been playing and at least you got a point out of it which was more than we did. I know people saw it doesn't matter and its about playing and taking part - well for those people WHY DO THEY KEEP A SCORE. After all we all love bragging rights. You are not allowed to gloat about Portugal because you are going to li e and work there, so gloating doesn't count. All that work in the sun will burn off a few of the old calories. I bet you cant wait, I am just jealous. For Heidij123, hey girl its all going the right way first Jabba, Then the Michelin Man, whats next, princess Leia, I can just imagine you with 2 rolled up donuts at the side of each ear ha ha. thank you for your kind words of solace regard the football result but did I detect a little sarcasm with "but you day will come"

To be honest, haven't kept up to date with any rugby recently... I'm still a complete wreck after watching the lovely Lizzie Jones sing Abide with me at Wembley Stadium before the Challenge Cup yesterday. Lizzie is the amazing wife of Danny Jones who died in May this year of a heart attack shortly after becoming ill at the start of a rugby match - 29 years old - what a sin. Last week we bought an item on ebay and they gave the money to a charity in his name. It was really emotional to hear her sing... She was amazing - really did her husband and family proud and their kids are just beautiful - pulls at the heart strings.

Hi Jo, it's a very small smallholding but plenty for us - we are in no way farmers - we have some land around the house, with a small olive grove/orchard to one side. The only access to our home and our two neighbours is a small, rough lane and diagonally from there we have a small field. All flat, workable land and we have a large chicken run for the chucks and ducks - an aviary for our parakeets and a good, movable run for the guinae pigs. We were discussing keeping bees too with a hive at the bottom of the field as it should help our crops but we'll speak to our neighbours first. We're in central Portugal about 2 hours from Lisbon and Porto, about a hour from the nearest beach - no tourists so we need to learn the lingo asap. Our home is in a little valley on the edge of a small village and about 5 miles from the nearest town so it's very peaceful and you feel you are in the middle of nowhere but we can still walk up the lane to the village shop. We have work to do to the house to make it how we want it to be but we have mains power and water plus a well to irrigate the land and John is already sourcing solar panels to run most of the power and hot water. It will be very much getting back to nature and away from life as we know it and we can't wait. We are converting what is laughingly described as a potting shed (4m x 5m - bloody big potting shed!!!) into a small guest annex so if any of our friends - you and your family included - feel the urge to step off the planet for a while - it'll be there waiting - basic but cosy complete with a log burner and - hopefully - loads of fresh fruit and veg!!!

Karen, good luck in Portugal! Portuguese people are lovely, I think, and a lot speak English, but their language is hard, especially the pronunciation. It does sound nice though! They have coffee, cakes and liqueurs for breakfast, what a great start to the day 😀 Jim, no, not sarcastic. I know that football is a serious business, I would never be sarcastic, not even at long range. Your day will come, just a statement of fact! Hello, Jo, sending you a buddy request.

And a buddy request to Karen, too. For some reason, I thought we already were!

Portugal sounds lovely, Karen. I am jealous of all the nice fruit and veg they have there! Only been there on holiday once. Have you started learning the lingo yet?

Heidij123 - Yes we are already buddies but it's nice to be asked again. I know what you mean about Portugal - if they were any more laid back they'd slip into a coma - love it!!! - Eclipsesolaire - Bleieve it or not we hadn't been there until we went on a reckie to check out areas and came back with a house!!! We have started to learn the lingo. In the area we're going to very few people speak anything other than Portuguese but we gave it a go and they love it when people try - we had a lot of laughs in the local restaurants and shops - It was great. We do a lot of correspondence using google translate and our builder has roped his daughter in to translate. Jim - Challenge accepted!!!
