I am getting really tired of the same few pounds going up and down and how I keep ignoring the promises I make to myself. With all the various things that are wrong with me (achy joints, bad hip, edema due to heart problems, skin conditions of more than one type, et cetera), you would think that I could just buckle down and start taking better care of myself, but no.

Tomorrow starts a fresh, new month, and with that I am resolving to start changing my thoughts and my actions in a more positive and healty direction. I really believe I can do just about anything if I really put my mind to it.

I am absolutely sure that you can do it. It is so hard to change a habit. I have found that carefully tracking everything I eat is an important part of this as it is so easy to pack in calories if I don't. It is always an eye opener to see how much some food item will "cost" me before I eat it. that way I can decide if I want to "spend" my calories on it. Yes it takes time to do that but it is a worthwhile investment. Hang in there.

You can do this!! I also plan my food in the morning; it seems to help me to stick with a plan for the day. I make adjustments as the day progresses. It is what I have done in the past few weeks and I finally made it off the plateau I had been on for a couple months. Sometimes, my walking is just up and down a hallway for 10 minutes at a time but I am doing it daily. I'll be doing it indoors today as it is raining buckets outside.

I'm quite similar. I'm in the gym 6-7 days/week. Weights, cardio etc. Fairly strong, and, I recently had a physical exam and got a thumbs-up from the physician. However, I'm about 225 and should be less than 210. I'd love to say it's all muscle, and there is some, but there's way more body fat than I should have. Why is that? Regardless of all of the kale, or other vegetables, or fruits, I completely throw discipline out the window when, say, a cheescake is in front of me, or someone in the office has a big candy jar with stuff I like. And, I wonder why the fat never goes away. Stick to it PhotoGal; it's going to be a new month. I'll try to have the same discipline you do.

I get that. Same kind of issues. Advice of a friend in the same boat has helped me as it helped her. "Quit beating yourself up. Be a friend to yourself. Forgive yourself. Then think of food as your friend and make the choices as though you love yourself." My doc says go slow a pound a week is 52 pounds a year. I'm doing better now and curb my endless life feed with an atkins shake in the blender with a cup of ice and a half cup of fresh fruit and a packet of Stevie.....yummy. Tastes like a milk shake and really fills you up. On a bad day have had as many as three. Good luck and find that love within.
