Weight loss is 80% diet and 20 % exercise (a quote from somewhere). But the gist of it is correct. You need to find a plan you can live with the rest of your life and exercise you can do/tolerate to help keep the weight off. Do your jump start and then find a good plan that allows you to live and lose. Weight loss is a long journey. Losing is only half the battle. Keeping it off is the other half. Walking (get a pedometer) is great exercise. Eating healthy and exercise helps you mentally and physically. Good luck!

you can do this. You have taken the first and hardest step on the road. You will feel much better with healthy food and a little exercise. We don't manage everything all the time but keep motivated and you will get there. It is a hard road but feel proud that you are on it. And the best thing I find to stay focused is staying active on Fat Secret. Everyone is so supportive. If you are struggling or fall there are always people to help and encourage and when you do great there are always people to celebrate with you. We all care for each other and we all matter, a lot. You are not a waste of space you are a person who matters and you are a person who cares. I will keep hoping and praying for you. :-)

The walking will help with the feelings of depression. If you have a smartphone you should be able to download a pedometer app to track your steps. Just pick a number and aim for it each day. You can do this. First and foremost though, give yourself room and permission to be human.

Keep it simple and in small steps. Its not easy seeing only the first step when you want to get to the Jessica Body. Same with depression. Sometimes, a goal can be to actualy go out of the bed. I agree with what maelynpeacock says about Smartphones. keep track of diet! if only to know that you have cleared todays goal yet again or if you fail it an actuall number not exaggerated by guilt.

You have youth on your side. The weight will come off. Depression is normal after a death of a loved one, but walking will help. Try to walk at least 3 times a week. You can use shampoo bottles or soup cans as weights for toning. You can do this. We're praying for you!!

were you eating enough calories with all that working out? You've got to make sure you know how much you're supposed to be eating because if you don't eat enough, the loss is going to be very difficult and come from all the wrong places. When you don't eat enough, your metabolism slows down, ESPECIALLY if you're working out that much. YOU HAVE TO EAT! Don't starve yourself. I learned last week that I wasn't eating enough and that's why for an entire 6 weeks, I wasn't losing and I was working out 5x a week. I was burning muscle and tissue, not fat and putting myself in starvation mode. Google "TDEE" total daily energy expenditure. This is what you burn between resting AND exercising. Once you know that number you can subtract 10-20% to figure out what you should be eating to lose weight. http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
Keep track of what you eat! For me, when I don't keep track, I fall off the wagon and the lbs start coming back. Even when I THINK I'm doing it all right. Focus on clean eating....REAL food. Stay away from "light" and "fat free" because all the fat is replaced with extra chemicals or sugar that our bodies cannot process, therefore turning it in to fat. It's OK to eat full fat cheese or drink full fat milk, etc. Just in moderation. Plus, full fat tastes better anyway :-) Fat free cottage cheese and fat free string cheese?? I might as well just be eating rubber!!! lol I want to enjoy my food but yes, in moderation.

First, be careful of "crazy diets." The most tried and true method of losing weight is simply eating healthy and exercising regularly. You don't need a gym membership, either; although it does help. YouTube and the rest of the internet are full of exercise routines you can do in the comfort of your own home. You're on the right track by coming to FS for support and motivation, but the rest is up to you.

I agree with LoadGod. I use Leslie Sansone's walking videos straight from youtube. She has a few that are anywhere from 15 mins to 45 mins. You can do this in your livingroom. I even did one that was an hour but for some reason I can't find it anymore. Just find some powerwalking videos. Denise Austin has a few as well.

I noticed I said winner instead of winter. Yes I am a winner. I have to stop looking at how much weight I need to lose and look at what I have accomplished. At least I haven't giving up.
