Isn't it funny how you just feel AWFUL after eating too much salt? Holy smokes, I try to stay under 2000mg (which rarely happens) and yesterday I made turkey tacos and BAM 3200mg! I am so bloated and my lips are prickly, my rings don't fit....sheesh....I probably over-shot on the servings I recorded but I can feel that extra salt regardless. I'll be drinking my life away for the rest of the day!!! Oh, that rhymed haha :)

I was looking at some ground turkey at the grocery store and wondering why why why so much sodium? It's not natural; it has to be added. When I get my ground turkey at Whole Foods it is just ground turkey and I can control how much salt I add for taste. I am, of course, assuming the sodium exposure you had was from the turkey - but I recognize also that spicey condiments tend to have a lot of sodium to bring out the flavor of the peppers. Drink drink drink - you'll be better in a day or so. Maybe add some fresh lemon juice to your water.

Yep...turkey did me dirty! lol...everything else I used was Reduced Sodium (which still is a lot of sodium IMO), the combination of everything got me!

I have that problem too and it seems like I always have the saltiest foods on Sunday. Together. Here's a hint for your tacos. I hate most f the manufactured taco seasonings and they have too much salt. So I made my own. If you take out all the preservatives and such you are usually left with garlic powder, onion powder and chili powder. I make my own. 1 part garlic to 2 parts onion to 3 parts chili. You can add more chili powder or add cilantro (which I hate). There you go. Oh, and Turkey has much more salt than chicken. Also, I use French's NO Salt sodium free salt substitute. It helped tremendously.

Or for taco seasonings I add chopped onions and garlic when I cook the meat, beans or whatever and then just add cumin and a bit of ground cayenne or chipotle.

I agree. Salt seems to be in everything and/or sugar. Best to check out the labels and add your own seasonings. I keep forgetting to add cumin to some of my dishes. I really like adding rosemary, fennel seed, oregano, hot pepper and garlic to most dishes I cook.

funny though your body does need some sodium. If you eat processed foods you probably get too much. I had to add sodium after my last blood work as mine was too low. Some is essential for heart function. As in everything moderation.

I totally agree with the make-your-own seasonings, taco seasoning is one I just CANNOT get to taste right, I will definitely use your recipes above and try...I'll also try the ground chicken versus turkey...@msbuggirl, I also use no-salt substitute, I have a HUGE thing of it in my desk work drawer!!! thanks kids!
