A little disappointed today. :/
I have gotten into the habit of running a 5k at leas twice a week. Have been running a 5k for 3 weeks now. I noticed that my calves were hurting me really badly, but of course I ignored the symptoms thinking it was just muscle cramps.
Last night I ran another 5k with my sister. This time both legs were in excrutiating pain. Not from my muscles, but from my bones. It felt like each step was breaking my, at that point, very fragile bones below my knees. I'm thinking they are shinsplints. An extreme version of shinsplints are tiny little fractures. I could barely move my legs after we were done.
I absolutely love running. I've even gotten to the point of running where I can easily breathe. Now, I can't run for a while, or do any form of jumping in my exercises. Please pray for me. This is very important to me :)

Praying for you. Hopefully nothing serious for the long term. You will be able to get back to where you are now if your body can heal properly:)

Jen--you're in my Prayers. I get shin splints from walking. I know they will go away if I keep my activity up, but I have to learn how to get through it. I read an article about slowing down my speed (I walk fast) and making sure I don't pound my feet on the pavement. Go slow, put on headphones and make sure you don't hear yourself walk. If you are on a treadmill, it's better to go slower and increase the incline, decrease, increase and that should help. I noticed by doing this, I am lasting longer without the shin splints. My sister and BIL are avid marathon runners (ran the Marine marathon in Washington, the Boston Marathon a couple of time, he was head of a running club, etc). I remember my sister being in pain and thinking she had stress fractures. Her toes would turn color in the beginning. I just didn't think that was healthy, but eventually she made it through it. I wish you lots of luck and I am sending Prayers. You will do it!

Thank ya'll so much!!! Your prayers are much appreciated. And Jill, thank you for the stories and the advice. Now that I think about it, it does seem like I am a little heavy on my feet. I will learn to be more careful... Thank you :)

Shin splints happen to almost all runners at some point. Ease up and let them heal and cross train doing different things. When you are ready, make sure you have excellent shoes. Start slowly and build up. If you start feeling pain, ease back. It's a small set back and you will be running again in no time.

I will pray with you. Perhaps God has asked you to slow down to do something He needs you to do. Grace be with you!
