Ginsin's Journal, 23 March 2015

As much as I've wanted for years for my husband to eat like me, today I am bummed that women do lose slower than men. We have been eating almost identically (he eats a few more snacks daily) and he's lost almost twice as much. I am happy for him, don't get me wrong--especially since I've wanted him off soda, but it feels so slow for me. I know it's not too bad losing 19 lbs in 7 weeks. He's literally lost 40! He used to drink almost a 2 liter nightly. Just not in a good space about weight today. I know this too shall pass.

Hun, I know what you mean. A few years back the hubby and I joined a gym. He lost like 10 lbs in the first month while I gained 10 lbs. I found it sooo depressing. I was happy for him but depressed for me. I wound up quitting the gym and even though I didn't intend for him to so did he. He hasn't officially joined me in this new diet journey but he has been eating a lot of the same things I eat. He hasn't gotten on the scales so we don't know if he's loosing any but I've decided that either way I'm going to focus on me. But it is like, "Come on now, this ain't fair darn it." Just focus on your weight loss and keep moving forward. And of course happy journey.

It's not fair, I know exactly how you feel. They get to eat more and they get to lose more. Years ago my husband started working out and was running circles around my weight loss, I was jelous. Just remember that you love him, and that supporting his health is one of the best ways to show it. You have made some great progress already, keep up the good work. You'll get there.

Losing weight is often frustrating in the short term, especially if someone else is losing faster right in front of your eyes. I don't know if this will help, but first realize that you're losing at a very healthy rate of about 2 1/2 lbs per week. You're more likely to keep the losses permanent that way because what your doing is sustainable and not a crash diet. Second, I used to compare myself to others here and be frustrated that someone else was losing faster, being more consistent with their losses, etc. After a while I accepted that I'm a unique person, just like everyone else is unique also, and we each have our own journey to make. This is your journey and while you and your husband are on this journey together, the exact path and rate of getting there will be different for each of you. It's great that you can do it together. And you are doing really well on your path, keep up the good work!

Nineteen pounds in 7 weeks is amazing. Never compare your loss to anyone else. But it does suck that men lose faster than women. They have more muscle than women. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest. Kick up your exercise plan to help with fat loss. And go you!!!

Thanks guys for keeping me in prospective. JMB3450 trust me, I have heard this my whole life, it just seems slow (my brain knows the right think, my eyes want to be 167---look, I didn't say 138 :)which would be real want). The comparison is bad for me, I've met people that weigh 50 less than me, but look way bigger because I have alot of muscle from lifting dog food bags, dogs, walking them outside 5x a day (own a dog hotel). That's why I always say I am a slave to the scale. I want a certain # which is so rough. I just want to get below 200 at this point, hard to believe I got as high as I did. Thanks Yolanda9179, I always read your about your days. :) Bluerose411 -- funny, today I told a friend that I feel happier than I have ever been. At 138 I think I was miserable because I had to work out for a minimum of 2 hours hardcore gym, and was eating 1000 calories a day...I was truly miserable constantly upset if I even ate an apple. Funny how life changes us. I'm in a better space while having lost 1 more LB and he lost 5 more. At least he's not a curmudgeon since he's been eating like me...whoohoo!
