Today is Day 4, and I know that my expectations might be unreasonable, but I was really hoping to see a drop this week to give me the incentive to stick with this for the long run. So far, nothing seems to have happened, and although I am nowhere near quitting (and realize that it's early), I am starting to wonder if this was the RIGHT diet choice for me. I have always been heavy on protein, and I eat a ton of fresh veggies, so all SB has really done is eliminated the grains & carbs. I guess I'm wondering if it will be enough of a shock to my system to kick-start some weight loss. I am SO looking forward to being able to check my weight on Sunday!

I, like you wasn't sure this diet was going to work for me because my diet was quite healthy to start with. I rarely went out to eat, made homemade dinner at home each night that was mostly protein and veggies and fairly low in fat, however my downfall was definately the addition of grains and carbs to that pretty healthy diet. Basically all I needed to do on south beach was cut out the grains and carbs and eliminate the resonable amount of sugar in my diet and what a difference it made. I have come to realize that apparently my body and carbs just can't cohabitate or the weight just oozes back up, slowly but deadly. Stick with it, I really didn't think that minor of a change in my diet would have a big impact, especially since it seemed like I had tried everything with no results, but suprise, suprise what an impact it was. I've lost 27 lbs in the last 12 weeks and am hoping to take off another 20-25 in the next 12. Remember the slower it comes off the less likely it is to come back, frusterating but true. Have patience and faith in yourself and you will suceed! GOOD LUCK!

I agree, I think carbs and I don't mix well. I think I am eating well, but what happens with 3 little kids is I pick at their stuff when I am cleaning up. Anyway, the most important thing to remember is don't give up, drink plenty of water (try crystal light or other sugar free bevs if you don't like water too much). Know that you are making a positive change, to get healthy and lose weight, and be proud of yourself for that alone. Also, measure your waist, chest, etc. because I think that is a better indicator of your success than a scale. Good luck!

Ditto all the comments above. Don't be discouraged. Check to make sure your portion sizes are right because I tend to 'fudge' a little and figure since I'm eating good food I can get away with a little extra. When I do this I see very little movement on the scale. Not up, but not down either. Just give it time.

You know, I noticed that you have a very young baby. I'm not a mom, so this is complete speculation, but it's possible that you're body is just saying "wait a minute, I need to hang onto this fat because I'm still feeding this little guy/gal!" With that said, I remind myself that dieting is a lot like working out. The first week or two you don't see any results, you're tired and sore and want to give up. But if you stick with it, you start seeing the results. If you were a healthy eater to begin with, you may not be seeing the big results in the first week because you aren't getting rid of the "junk" both in your eating and in what's stored in your body. Good luck, you'll start seeing results soon!
