I found one of these sites where you put in your age, sex, weight, waist and height. It then tells you your athletic weight and waist. At my weight, 40 years old, 6'1 and a 37 waist it says I should be 204 with a 33.5 inch waist. So I put in my old weight from a few years ago of 330 with a 44 inch waist and it put me in the exact same place as to where I should be.Sounds pretty good to me, but every time I go to my doctor he shows me these charts saying I should be around 175!

Diet Calendar Entry for 21 December 2014:
6 kcal Fat: 0.12g | Prot: 0.71g | Carb: 0.00g.   Breakfast: Coffee (Brewed From Grounds). more...

How much you should weigh is a very individual thing. If you workout hard and have more muscle, you may weigh more but carry a smaller body fat percentage. You could weigh 200 but be very lean with little fat. You could weigh 180 and have higher body fat and less muscle, lol! Pick a goal that is you feel comfortable at. You can always adjust it as you go. You might get to goal and decide to focus on fat loss and gaining some muscle. Since muscle is more dense than fat and takes up less room, you can get heavier on the scale but much smaller in sizes.

I was told that those height and weight charts are for 18 to 25 year olds. Your doctor telling you to get down to 175 pounds sounds crazy for your height. Suzi161 speaks the truth. Listen to her. :)

Thanks Suzi and Deb for the info.My doc was happy with what I have done but then shows me these charts.I laughed and said come on!He kind of just shrugged his shoulders. Sounds like I should be more concerned with measurements from a tape measure than those from a scale.I'd say it's a safe bet to get down another 30 pds or so to around 215 and then see where I am at with everything.

I was beginning to wonder about those charts too. And to see someone else is questioning them helps me too. And supports my decision to just maintain, eat right and excercise with my current weight status not the 145 BMI pds is states to be "normal" weight. My family told me I was getting to thin, but my waist line was disagreeing for me. For my family to say that I too thin is a miracle. I have heavy all my life, weighing in most years 250+ and one year 31 pds. I am 5'4 which is grossly obese. Now I am in the 150's and happy. My younger sister is 4"11 and has always been the smaller sister of the three of us. Now I am giving her a run for her clothes. I tried her workout pants on and the fit. Best moment of my life, but did not share with anyone until now. Would not hurt her feelings. King in the North, if you are happy and healthy, listen to that!
