What is your nutrition IQ? - WebMd

Seven hours of hours of sleep, followed by a half hour of drowsing while listening to podcasts. After days at eighty, temperatures will finally start dropping. Looking forward to the cold wave and the rain. Glad I don't live in California.

Morning plank. Ten minutes on the Air Walk Trainer first thing in the morning to burn off glycogen.

Cardio: 1 1/2 hours on the Air Walk Trainer, 5 minutes on the stepper. Steps: 1037.

Relaxation: two half hour naps.

The Midland weather radio arrived. I put it under the desk in my home office because I've run out of plugs next to the bed. I still have to put the backup batteries in as soon as I find them. I put the Fat Gripz on the stepper so I can feel less guilty about having two pairs. I'm back on my eating nuts every day (almonds) and fish (salmon) twice every week, although I hope to get more tuna eventually. I want to work my way through the shrimp scampi I have in the freezer and the cans of Wild Planet shrimp I got as a Christmas gift. I tried mixing the psyllium in the My Blender and it did a much better job of dispersing the powder than the Blender Bottle (surprise, surprise!). Makes me feel better about putting psyllium husks on Amazon Subscribe & Save.

I tried baking some Fleischman's Italian Herb bread in the slow cooker. I may have done it too long as some of the bread was burned on the edges and I had to scrape it off. I will keep experimenting although I will probably wind up buying a cast iron loaf pan.

Bread pans in the oven are best. I have heavy black metal ones that I love, don't get the non stick ones and dark ones work better than the shiny silver colored ones. Mmmmm, I don't remember ever seening cast iron ones. I have a bread maker I keep trying to give away.

Years ago, I used to bake bread regularly using a refurbished Zojirushi bread machine, the Rolls Royce of bread makers, but it broke. I was looking at bread machines recently, but remembered my no-Teflon pledge. Lodge makes cast iron loaf pans for around $20.

Cool didn't know that about the cast iron loaf pans. My bread machine sits gathering dust and taking up space in my garage, ex decided I needed one; I think I used it once;

I make bread almost every week but do not like the bread maker.

In my haste to try out baking bread in the slow cooker, I didn't read the part about using parchment paper so the bread wouldn't stick to the side of the crockpot. I did get a much better rise in the slow cooker with the cover on than with a towel over the loaf on a flat pan. However, I did let rise for an hour longer than before because I forgot about it.

I make bread a lot in the winter and I use my bread machine, but only to make the dough. I don't like crusty bread and with just the two of us it doesn't stay fresh. So I have the machine make the dough, then I turn it into rolls. Freeze most of them so that 30 seconds in the microwave makes them fresh again.

I use my trusty 30yo kitchenaid mixer for dough then finish kneading by hand. But using a bread machine to mix is a good idea. The bread machines work well for many people, just not my choice.

I used to buy a lot of day-bread at Kroger really cheap, but didn't have room in my freezer so it would get stale or moldy. Face palm. I've stayed away from Kroger until I get more room in my freezer. I've got one rock hard loaf I'm going to turn into croutons.

Chris, I quit using Teflon years ago. Late 90's I acquired my first bird. Was missing my pets, left the DH and moved from the country to a small apartment. Discovered that Teflon fumes kill birds. They used to use birds as tells in mines for toxic gasses. Mmmmm this equals toxic to humans, FYI...many air fresheners are also toxic to birds.

wholefoodnut, I stopped using Febreze after I found out what was in it. A bowl of vinegar works as an air freshener.

As does making mint tea. A bit of citrus peel in some boiling water. If you spray vinegar on fabric it will also neutralize fabric odors. I use vinegar in a Downey ball in my washing machine instead of fabric softener and balls in my dryer.

Chris, did you get the free Kindle book? Cast Iron Skillet Recipes: Simple, Delicious, and Easy Recipes Using Your Cast Iron Skillet.

i love cast iron. i have skillets, though, not a baking pan. i found them all at thrift stores. i do have a little le creuset, which i got when i go married. i make irish soda bread in the skillets. the only issue is that they're heavy, so now i'm actually using a calphalon pan for every day.

I keep watching thrift stores for cast iron, no luck so far. I remember years ago buying a set of three cast iron skillets for $10.00 at a hardware store. I think my ex still has them. I love my cast Dutch oven.

Deb_N, yes, I did, thanks to you. I check the top 100 free Kindle list regularly but somehow missed that one. Also picked up a copy of "Baking in Your Skillet: A Collection of Skillet Recipes."

wholefoodnut, the only problem I have with buying used cast iron is provenance. People throw shade on Chinese cookware. Then again, there are people who don't like cast iron because it's a source of inorganic iron.

I have 4 woks different sizes, use them constantly; have a Teflon electric one I inherited sitting in the garage, need to get rid of it. After Christmas may buy a cast iron skillet, budget will be really tight until after the 1st of the year.

Years ago I had a West Bend electric work with a nonstick surface. Somewhere along the line I got rid of it. Lodge makes a cast iron wok for $50. Like you I'm on a budget so I'll probably only buy one new cast iron piece every month.

I have heavy steel woks from oriental markets. Have had 3 of them for 30+ years the 4th a small one I picked up in a thrift shop a couple years go, they are well seasoned and are great on my gas stove. Instead of using the rings I flip the cast parts where the pots sit upside down, they are perfect! On electric stoves the flat bottom woks are best.
