Deb_N's Journal, 26 September 2014

When I was a young girl, my mother wore a size 10 dress, which she thought was the most desired size for a woman. Having a daughter that was too fat was an embarrassment for her. I felt that she was disgusted with me, that my being chubby made people think she was a failure as a mother. How fat was I? I wore size 11, and I was only 10 lbs overweight according to the doctor's height and weight chart. My feelings of inadequacy and humiliation caused a lot of problems in my life, along with the teenage angst that everyone goes through. However, I survived. I will continue to come to FatSecret dot com and speak my mind in my journal. Thanks for your support. :)

I know what you mean. I was the 'fat' child out of 6! (With a Mom that remained a size 2!!! Even after having kids!) It's a vicious cycle~ you get told you're fat so you get depressed and eat and people assume it's because you're weak. SO not true. I was a healthy size 8, but I always felt huge. Now I'm a plus-size who will be VERY happy to get back into those size 8's.

I love reading your posts, Deb, and I understand where you're coming from. My mother was always approx. 20 lbs. overweight and I have a cross between her body and my paternal grandmother's. I have two sisters who took after their biologic dads and are quite a bit thinner than I am. I remind myself that while I have birthed and raised three beautiful children, neither of them has. It shouldn't matter, but it makes me feel better. Thankfully, my mother didn't give me any major hangups or negative feelings about my body. You are strong and beautiful and can overcome the negative start you got. I know you can!
