Calories are NOT bad....calories give your body the energy it needs to survive. Calories in morbid excess are bad. So if you're thinking of starving yourself, please don't. You're just shutting your body down slowly. It's like gassing a car. Too much gas and it floods, and when you run out of gas, it shuts down. Your body is the same way. Keep the calories in check and your body will thank you. Please be careful to those who are considering this.

You know, I use that same analogy a lot. Food is fuel, breathing is air, and exercise is combustion, the three things you need to make a car move. (Exhaust takes care of itself.) And the four stages on an internal combustion engine? Intake, compression, combustion and exhaust. That is a great analogy and this is a great thread. I sum it up as "You gotta eat, you gotta breathe, and you gotta move." All the people who fats and starve themselves are doing damage to their body that sadly they won't see for a long time. You get short term weight loss as your body senses starvation and burns stored fat, but long term, nope.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can say or do to make someone eat more if they think that starving themselves is a good diet regime. Either they will become anorexic or crash and burn, meaning give up on dieting and gaining all the weight back.

So true. Took me years to realize and do this. Since having kids i've realized the importance of eating enough of the right food!
