JustJo23's Journal, 25 July 2014

The exercise machine at the gym says I burn X number of calories, but when I add it to my exercise journal, I'm told that I've burned quite a bit more.

The exercise machine accounts for resistance and calculates my weight, but the calorie thing knows how tall I am and my gender.

Does anyone else have a similar problem? I would be quiet upset to know that I'm not burning as much as the fatsecret exercise calculator suggests =(

Many people say that fat secret gives a bigger calories deficit then we actually have. It's not an exact science anyway. I always log that I walked or biked at moderate speed even though I was faster than that so that the calorie deficit would be somewhat right.

I believe FS calculates way too many calories used for the exercises and it's RDI'S are high too! When I used Walking Spree, my basal rate was around 1500. FS says my RDI is up to 2300!! No way!

I look at it holistically. My pedometer tells me how long and how many calories I burned, but it doesn't differenciate between hills and flat sidewalks. Whenever I enter my walking, I modify whatever FS says to what my pedometer says. So I may have walked one hour and burned 420 calories, but FS says that I burned 450 so I fudge the minutes so I refect 420. That's how I've been dealing with the differenciation. I wonder what others do
