Tired.
translated quote from "Markings of a king"

Tom was absolutely exhausted and dropped on the great kolonial bed. He was so tired of the endless learning, working and just being on his best behavior all the time. He would have given almost anything to be able to grab his old hoe and work the fields of his beloved monastery, but that ship had sailed, and it was a dream that was no longer attainable.
He took the bridge of his nose between his thumb and index finger and tried to push back his stinging headache. There was a soft knock on the door. Tom sighed, he was expecting the maids to come in and dress him up for dinner. Tom had forgotten what honored guest he was to dine with tonight, but fortunately he could rely on Gwendoline who was always prepared to perfection. He did not answer the knock and hoped that the maids would go away. There was a second knock, this time a little louder.
"Come in" Tom said in a very small voice, still hoping that he would not be heard, but the door opened anyway.
Tom knew that it was Gwendoline entering the room. He had no idea how he knew. He still had his eyes closed, but the somehow his heart enlightened the moment the door opened, and he knew only Gwendoline gave him that special feeling.
"King Adrian" Gwendoline whispered, "Are you okay?"
"I'm tired, but otherwise I'm fine, with whom are we going to dine tonight?"
"Uh, we where supposed to dine with the Duke of Geth, but he sends his apologies, because he has caught a nasty flu. You don't have to dress up, you can rest." Tom sat up on his elbows and gave Gwendoline a grateful look.
"That's good news. No I didn't mean that. I mean, that's too bad for the Duke, I hope he gets better soon." Tom was ashamed of his initial reaction, but he was pleased with the unexpected freedom nevertheless. He fell back on the pillows.
"Shall I wake you at 9 am? So you can meet with the Kings?" Gwendoline realized fully that the conversations with the kings every night where of crucial importance to King Adrian, it was his only chance of learning what it was like to be a real king. She did not see these meetings as pastime, but as a job. She also knew how tired he was afterwards. And still he often walked right to the library in the middle of the night to find out about the things he learned.
"Yes please, you may also send a servant, if you prefer." Tom mumbled, and he felt a great peace befall him.
"Goodnight King Adrian." Gwendoline whispered and closed the door softly in her wake.

Just an editorial note for end of 3rd paragraph. The "the" in "but the somehow his heart" shouldn't be there, and just after lightened would sound better than enlightened. I'm sure you would see this when less tired and I'm not the writer here so I could be wrong.

The process is painfully long. Editing often takes longer than the writing itself. Editing your own writing is doubly tough... and Marvin is in the house.

it is a translation from dutch. My writing skills in english are terrible, i know. if i ever have the book translated, i'll hire a translator ... it was just a attempt to tell you guys how i feel and how i translate that feeling into my writing. So my main question is, do you feel how tired Tom is after reading this?

3 AM. Me and Tom... we're in this together... as long as TOM isn't an abbreviation. There's a lot right in the grammar too, Maud. My guess is 90% of native English speakers would get 'whom' wrong. You nailed it. Hey, Maud. How'd you get your hair to match the colour of your status bar. :D

Now I can't wait for your status bar to turn green.

turns green at 77.7 kilo... that means i have to lose 84-77.7=6.3 kilo... If i can stay motivated during holidays i would reach that by the time i have my birthday at 13 september... i am, afraid you have to wait some time yet NM... ps: Tom is not an abbr. (*lol*)

ooh I want to read more of this :) isn't it rather spelled "colonial"?

Yeah, that's one of the words that are so close in her native language to English it's easy to miss.

i think i translate the book myself after all, post it here on FS and let all you guys take out the errors (*lol*)

Everyone could take a copy and edit it for you. Then we'd send them all back at the same time. :)

I think your grasp of English is amazing, Maud. And as Wholefoods we as people can easily overlook words. Especially words like the, an, a and such that the mind fills in when kinda speed reading. I'm slightly dyslexic so I read slow and catch such things. I for one would love to read more and have no problem doing editorial, plus like you I have an opinion on everything so I'll give you my honest one. Honestly this was well written and did get across Toms weariness, especially his mental weariness. Love the hair color, and with the weight you've lost so far you can now see those lovely cheekbones. NM thanks for reminding me of Marvin's name. It was annoying me that couldn't remember.

You do an amazing job at english. Most people can't do one language correctly, much less two languages. Pat yourself on the back! And do a Happy Dance! Anyone with common sense knows what you were trying to convey and could figure out what any spelling or grammar errors actually meant.

As dclaytor said you do amazing with English, never worry about it...
