jsfantome's Journal, 24 February 2011

I was just reading from K8's journal, which is about listening to your body and eating according to hunger signals. (not recommended for anyone whose hunger sensor is broke!) ... well, that got me to thinking...

I have been at my goal weight since the end of October. And I have repeatedly tried to jump start my ketosis, and losing again, and although I can get a pound or two off here or there... it comes back.

Which I personally think is water weight from over carbing! (sometimes WAAAAAAY over carbing...like last weekend's margarita, and mexican chips and cheese dip!)

This feels alot like a roller coaster, and I want to get off this mental week to week stress induced cycle.

So, using only low carb foods, I am going to experiment with this hunger signal thing. I am going to attempt to not eat for the remainder of the evening (already had a nice dinner)... so when I wake up I can begin to pay attention to how my body feels.

Is it sending me signals for bkfst (because I have literally been eating bkfst on a schedule, hungry or not...)

and then throughout the day, I will listen, and feel, and wait and watch to see when and how and if my body signals hunger.

Just curious about this...

Also, I have tracked my foods on a lengthy basis, but I often feel I overeat. Right now, I feel more than full. Like I could have done w/ a little less at my meal time.

I will track these kinds of thoughts and feelings too...

hope you are all well,
much love,
Paula

That sounds really interesting Paula. I guess I will have to go check out K8's journal myself. Hope you had a great day.:)

Paula, I have been trying to eat only when I am hungry also. Sometimes I feel like I have eaten more than I want simply because I am trying to get my calories up. I am wondering if I truly need to eat 1500 calories a day. I think I will try that also, and see what happens. Still eat the right foods, but not on schedule. Good luck. Hugs! :D

i've been doing that for a while - i only eat when i'm hungry. i know everyone says to eat while on atkins, but it just doesn't make sense to me if i'm not hungry, why force it? maybe that's why me weight loss has slowed but i'd rather have a slow & steady loss rather than a bloated belly from stuffing my face... that's how i got to this point in the first place :)

Sophie, that's the thing...I feel like I used to 'overeat' unhealthy and unnecessary amounts of 'high carb' foods... and now, I 'overeat' low carb ones. And while I have been able to lose, and maintain... I still have rather unhealthy eating habits. For one, I eat too fast. I always have. And I would love to change that. But even when I try to make a concerted effort to slow down and pace myself, yada yada ... I lose track of this way of thinking after a meal or two, and go right back to eating fast again. I am tired of telling myself...you HAVE to eat this ... or that... in this volume, or at this scheduled time... or else... or else what? I am tired of feeling over stuffed, and I am tired of feeling like I can't move out of this rut I'm in. (ok, bit of rant...but thanks for listening!) Much love.

i tend to eat on the faster side too but we watch the news during dinner (with my boyfriend brian williams on nbc - love him!) and 6:30 is a good time for us to eat as a family, so i try to pace myself and spread my meal out over the 30 mins. you could try setting a timer to help you slow down - it does help to eat slower - but i refuse to stuff myself anymore. when my body is hungry, i feed it atkins friendly food and when i'm full, i'm done. good luck, i think you'll do just fine :)
