HealthyBabs's Journal, 23 February 2011

Happy hump day to all my buddies! Just saw something I found so appropriate to all the recent conversations recently of lb loss v getting healthy. Anne Curry on the Today's show was interviewing the governor of New Jersey. She made a comment to him on his recent weight loss efforts and she was actually goading him to tell her how many "pounds" he has lost. I was so proud of him for reinforcing that it is not about the # of pounds lost it is all about the improvements he is making in his health. The pounds are the result of working on the goal....the pounds are not the goal!!!! Let's think about that as we journey forward!

Good Morning Babs. Long time no talk. Salut from South o' Hartford!!! You bring up a very good point. Most people think the two are synonymous, but the weight comes off as a result of a change in eating habits and the effort to get healthy. One may certainly eat Ortega prepared burritos and Take out meat-lovers pizza, still lose weight, and they won't necessarily be healthy (Muscle vs. Fat is a consideration too). On the other hand, Many people NEED to lose the weight in order to remotely start being healthy. It's a Chicken/Egg thing sometimes which leads to the two things being synonymous in some people’s minds...P.S. I think the sanctions on the Men's BB Team are going to hurt in the coming years. Take care, Buddy.

Bab's I saw that interview and I thought his answer was great! It really is the honest truth even though sometimes those numbers spell success louder for others.

I saw that interview and the govenor was right in not giving in to popular pressure on how many pounds he had lost. As you state, Babs, the more important issue is being healthy and the pounds will normally come off.

Good for him...how much he lost isn't nearly as important as his journey toward a healthier life.

CMR - we are on the same wave length here. Cn the side note, unfortunately, Coach Calhoun is taking the fall for his guy but he is the man in charge. I don't think that is gonna hurt them at all. I see he won't be at the Marquette game on Thursday, unfortunate for the loss of his SIL, but maybe best to stay out of public until the dust settles over this.

Babs-I don't think his suspension will hurt the team as much as the loss of the 3 scholarships and the recruiting restrictions. But you are right. The buck stops with him.

He is such an inspiration to many people. I didn't see the interview but what he said was so true. Makes us want to look different at those fluctuations. Thanks for sharing. Love and Hugs{{{}}}
