Okay ... I'm working hard to maintain my positive attitude ... help!!! The scale went up a whole pound )~: I know, I know, I know ... it can't really mean anything but my mind is playing tricks on me. I've been hungrier lately so I've consumed closer to 1200 calories a day ... which still isn't a whole lot, I know. Ugh. I spent the morning drive to work giving a pep talk to my mom who just got back from vacation and she's up 1.8 lbs. It is a lot easier to encourage someone else. I am okay. I am okay. I am okay.
207.8 lb Lost so far: 51.4 lb.    Still to go: 22.8 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

on diet madaboutmoose's own diet   gaining 7.0 lb a week

You are right it is a lot easier to encourage others. I don't think it has anything to do with you consuming more calories because 1200 is the lowest any person should have in a day. I was told that when my cals are low I put my body in starvation mode. Then your body will cling to every calorie because it thinks you will need them. Can you try eating the amount of calories you are suppose to this week. Like I am suppose to eat 1450 or 1530 I forget. Make good choices and exercise and see if there is a difference by the end of the week. In my journal is a link to the website that tells you how many cals to eat. You can do this. You know it will go up and we freak out then down and we second guess the scale, it always seems to be a lose lose lol. You can do this. It will come off I bet by next friday you are under 200. You GO GIRL!!!!

You are right, you are ok. Don't let this pound get you down. I am struggling too, we both have to stay with this otherwise we will just gain what we have lost. Is it possible you are struggling because people are saying you are ok where you are at??? We start to believe that because we want to eat what we have not been able to. Hang in here. ((hugs))

If indeed I was eating something different I might think I was being impacted by others telling me ... "you are fine" ... but in reality I should be able to eat a minimum of 1400 calories a day and still lose so I dont' think that's it. This day shall pass and another will arrive and hopefully I'll see that pound gone!! Thanks!!! ... I have pondered this before ... I think I need to eat MORE ... and I'm scared to do it ... I've lost so well up until right now I'm afraid to change things but I think my body might be telling me it is time to consume more calories before it thinks it is starving!! So, I'm hungry right now, even though I ate about an hour and a half ago ... so yogurt here I come!!

I totally agree, it is a lot easier to encourage others than yourself. I was looking at your chart(which by the way, kudos to you on the amount you have lost!!!!), and you can see a pattern. It maybe just how your body will handle the weight loss. I know when I lost my weight the 1st time around on my program, I had a pattern going. One week I would lose lbs, but no inches..the following week it would be the opposite. You are doing SUCH a great job!!! Just hang in there, and I bet you will see the weight coming off again.

Look gang...I really don't think you can concern yourself with a daily fluctuation. I have weighed myself before in the morning and evening and been 4 lbs difference. Especially when my weight is plummeting like yours is. You gotta try looking at it with a longer view. I've mentioned before how much I like weigh in weekly. Someone else mentioned that they weigh in daily but only record weekly....maybe that could help you look at a longer view and still keep you accountable on a daily basis. But again all this is opinion and you should do what works for you...hell no way to argue with your success. But my guess is your metabolism is panting away right now trying to figure out how to slow down your loss and it is making it harder to lose. Just thoughts. Please ignore if you don't like 'em. Best as always Jim

No need to "ignore"!! LOL!! Disregard maybe ... but never ignore!! Like I said ... I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW that daily fluctuations are not important ... I've weighed myself first thing in the morning and then again after I exercise and I'm up 2 lbs. I think I write this down to get it through my thick noggin' that I AM NORMAL ... well relatively speaking!! I do think my calorie intake is too low and I think I need to increase my daily caloric intake. Everything I've read says 1400 minimum for "extreme fat loss" for my height and activity level. I rarely hit that. So ... Jim may be right, my metabolism may be thinking I'm in starvation mode and be on a slow down. I'm of course, unrealistically slightly freaked out that if I eat more I'll gain weight. I also know that is NOT TRUE. It's a process ... I have a whole life time of bad eating practices and irrational thinking patterns around food I'm working out here on all of you great folks!! So ... I'm struggling a bit but by no means giving up the good fight!! I so appreciate all the input I get ... and the encouragement to fight the good fight. Y'all remind me when I'm being a little on the silly side. Eventually I might be able to graduate to weekly weigh ins ... we'll see. Again, thanks buds!!

You just keep doing what you've been doing and slowly stop worrying so much about the scale. When I start to "freak out" I always go back to the thermodynamics, I was a chemistry major, if you HONESTLY eat less than you burn (and the FS tools are good at allowing you to keep track) Then the weight will come has to. Its a thermodynamic fact. If for some reason its not (over a long period of time) then there is what I call a "leak" in your estimating. I don't think you have a leak, I think you're just measuring with a micrometer something that is marked with chalk. You're scale is more precise than it is possible to keep you kcal counts and exercise on the daily basis. Sooooo DEEP BREATHING is my solution. Do DEEP BREATHING FOR A WEEK and then we'll see where we are...LOL. Oh by the way I have a name for what it sounds like you are doing...and I say this completely in jest and keep in mind I do it all the time...I "spaz in place". Meaning my mind starts spinning out of control doing all kind of gymnastics that in the end amount to nothing. Lots of moving but no moving...spazing in place. Who knows it might burn some Kcals.. Keep 'em Green. Jim

Ugh, i know how you feel. I can nurture and comfort everyone else but myself! lol Take a deep, deep breath- in and out, very slowly. Now, think about this. You know rationally that you didnt gain that pound. Dont stress! Forget about it if you have to. Thats what I have found I have to do... I just go on as if I never saw what the scale read. See, if only I would follow my own advice haha I know its easier said than done, but I know you can do this. You've given such sincere support and wonderful advice, and I am very grateful for you. Oh, and from reading your comments, I think its wise to up the cals and see what happens. Even if you just eat a little extra every other day instead of every day. Make it a slow progression so your body can adjust. Dont give up, I know you WILL succeed!

Ah ... I feel so much better!!!! Breathing is good!!! Y'all are my heroes .... thanks. Jim I love the spazing in place metaphor ... sort of like mental masturbation ... I can certainly over think things ... one of my very special talents!! Ha!!
