Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 12 March 2014

Ow ow ow ow ow. The kids taught me two things last night. First.. I may be old and round but I can still do the splits and Second.. they have too many toys. I tried walking through the kitchen while all the play kitchen food was everywhere and ended up on the floor. Last night? I was ok. Today? Everything hurts! Things I didn't even think I hurt now hurt. My thumb hurts, the top of my foot, my hip, my thigh, my side, my arm. UGH!! Looks like the workout today is turning into a rest day. Even if I was nutty enough to try it the universe decided to dump a foot of snow on us at lunchtime to make me think twice about it. Despite my bosses feelings of it just being snow and I should be fine.. I'm going home early. She lives 5 minutes from work in the city. I live an hour away from work in the middle of nowhere full of hills and curves and a guardrail between me and death. Oh and I have to pick up my 19 month old along the way.. and I'm um pregnant! Yeah.. she may be ok with me driving through a blizzard but I'm not.

Reminds me I need to look for a new job. One where they can understand having kids and living an hour away and well care about their employees. A job like that might exist out there right??

I am so glad that you are okay. I think that you should take a rest day as well.

If you find a job like that let me know, lol! You need that rest day, after your fall, then driving in a blizzard, I know that makes me a nervous wreck! Be careful out there!

City people just don't understand! At least we country people get the luxury of peace and quiet and not all that smog when we get home from work every day! Take a nice hot bath tonight when the kids go to bed and hopefully you will feel refreshed in the morning and all of your boo boos feel better

Jobs like that DO exist - just few and far between. It's actually not the "job" but the "boss" that makes it possible. Careful on the drive home and a good warm soaking bath may be in order. Hope your day gets better!

O_o *OUCH* I have to try to not visualize that too much or I start to feel sympathy pain. :( (However, NEVER in my life have I been remotely close to doing the splits. DD1 can to Chinese splits- one leg in front, one behind instead of both out to the side. Me? I would probably break or tear things that I don't know the name of and require medical intervention to get back up. Your reasoning seems prudent. IF they want to give you garbage about not staying, they should offer hazard pay for the commute and a chaperone/ caravan to ensure you make it home safely first. Feel better and have a safe ride home! :)

Hope you are ok. Speaking as a grandmother and a city person, I have nothing but admiration for you. I only had two kids and I know what working and bringing up a family is like, but I never had to drive an hour to get to work or had to help with barn chores when I got home, let alone do all the other stuff as well. I certainly never had to encounter the kind of snowy and icy conditions you get where you are and you still find the determination to keep fit and healthy whilst growing another person!! You may not feel like it, but you are Wonder Woman!! Even she needs a rest day here and there, so curl up in a comfy place if you get the chance!! And look out for treacherous plastic fruit - I spent yesterday sifting some out from the grand kids' overflowing toy box yesterday. Sneaky stuff!! My hall is now full of toys heading for our local charity shops.

I hope you feel better! Darn snow! We've been lucky and haven't really had much snow this year. Hopefully some of the nice weather we're having will make it's way to you. I'm lucky to have a job that is really flexible and bosses who understand if I need to take time off. I work for a state agency and because they can't pay the greatest they make up for it in flexibility. Good luck!
