Smollettri's Journal, 06 January 2014

Hello All,
I know it has been a while since I wrote, but so much has happened. I got financial aid to do a weight loss program this year, but the problem is that it doesn't offset the cost of the food (shakes) you have to buy for the program. I do get a 25% discount on them, but it is still very expensive. I may need to take out a loan to pay for it as the program is 7 months and the amount I would probably be paying would be able $2,800. If I can even get a loan for that amount. I have to work out all the details that need to be considered for this program. Anyway, I want to write more but my illness is really rearing its ugly head and only lets me have a few minutes of sane time. I feel like an evil monster is controlling me and only lets me think clearly for a few seconds at a time. I hope you all have some kindness in your life, you all sound pretty happy. I will write again very soon. Talk to you all later.

PS: I do read everyone's journal entries on a daily basis and you all inspire me. God bless you all.

Have you talked with your insurance carrier to see if they'll cover any kind of help to aid in weight loss. What is the program you're talking about where you have to take out a loan?

I am glad you were able to come in and leave a journal, smolletri. Good luck on that health plan. It is a shame you have to take out a loan to buy shakes. Perhaps you can still follow the diet eating regular food? That is the only problem with a lot of these programs. Perhaps you can research this a bit more and find another plan that doesn't put you in debt. God bless you and hope you get better.

Why not eat "real food" instead. Ever notice how cheap a head of cabbage is?

Buffy Bear is right! There are several cheap options for good protein if the shakes are too expensive....are the shakes a required part of the program. Illness tends to improve with weight loss and hopefully yours will too. Hang in there!

The shakes are part of the program. It is a full fast for 20 weeks drinking only shakes. The program is called Optifast, they have a website, www.optifast.com. I cannot seem to learn how to eat any other way, I feel like such a freakin' pig, I just CANNOT stop. I have tried everything. I am way over what I ever expected to get up to, being close to 400 lbs, and it scares the crap out of me. I can't walk, or exercise, or anything that I should be doing with the way I feel. I hurt all the time. This program was to be my own hope. Now, I am not sure WHAT to do. I am scared I will blow up. I have so many health problems right now, I am scared shitless of dying in my sleep or something. I really dunno how to stop. I have been diagnosed with an eating disorder, and the truth of the matter is, I can't seem to eat vegetables! I want to so badly, but I just DON'T!!! Sigh, I have no clue what to do now. :(

There is no guarantee it will work and cost you a bundle at the end of it all. What kind of promises are they making? Yeah, you'll probably lose, but when you start eating again, the chances of gaining it back are really high. Talk to a doctor or nutritionist. Again, talk to your insurance carrier. Many provide consultations with nutritionists who will work with you. There are alternatives. If you're set on drinking protein, buy it yourself. I use 100% Whey Protein "CytoSport" from Costco. A 6lb. bag lasts a long time and is about $45.00. Try that first.

I was on that and lost much weight, but as soon as I got off the program, I gained it back. You know what you have to do, but don't beat yourself up. Just don't give in to the temptation and it gradually gets easier

Hi Smollettri. I have struggled with weight loss most of my life. Had surgery recently and had to stop eating for 4 days prior and guess what. Weight loss occurred. My point is that depending on health limitations, what I had felt was impossible was possible if I was willing to do what it takes. I don't recommend not eating at all, but I could do it when I needed to. Short fasts sometimes help me know that I can survive the hunger, miserable feelings and irritability that comes with strict calorie restriction. For myself only, I realized that I needed to shift my thinking about how hard things are and just do what it takes. My recommended calorie intake is 1800 for my size, but I know I need to reduce to 1500 if I want to see any change. Losing weight is a kind of self care I have resented doing, but time to change that way of thinking if I want to have success. Come back to health. Treat yourself with the love that any good significant other would. There are others who know your fears and struggles.
