Rob.c.weiss's Journal, 31 October 2013

14 weeks down, 23 weeks left to go! Still feeling great! In those 14 weeks I've lost 84 pounds (25% of my starting weight is gone!). Want to hear something really scary? Take a gallon jug of vegetable oil, then line up 10 just like it--11.6 gallons to be exact. That's how much fat I've lost. Ugh! It's a gross image, I know... but it really helps me to visualize what I've done. Couldn't do that with lipo. It would kill you.

I'm zeroing in on my next mini-goal of 250. My projections are showing I should get there around Nov 9th (3 months ahead of my goal date of 2/9)! :D The projection algorithm I've been using is working amazingly well. It has predicted my weight loss almost exactly for the last 10 weeks. A month ago it was predicting I'd get to 250 by 11/13. I know it is strange, but it is really helping me stay on track. Just to know if the scale doesn't move much on a given day, doesn't deflate me like it always used to, because I know the prediction model has been right every time, and it is telling me I'm going to get there. Weird, eh? But, it is really making a difference for me. It stops me from reaching (most times) for the handy snack nearby.

Kind of bizarre, but it is working for me. So, I'm sticking with it.

As of now, this is what it is predicting:
250 by 11/9
The big 100 lb lost (240) by 11/23
225 by 12/17
200 by 1/30
About 195 by my birthday (2/9)
170 by 4/9

I hope it is right. These predictions are unofficially what I'm aiming for... although my original mini-goal dates remain as my official:

250 by 2/9
225 by 3/31

When I get to 225, I'll make some more mini-goals.

For my buddy, Keld, I promised a couple of links, but I'm having a heck of a time getting them to him. FS isn't playing nice. So, Keld, these are for you:

Here is an article that covers just ideal body fat percentages and stuff...

Ideal Body Fat Percentages

This article (or a similar one) is one I read about a year ago or so:

Being underweight is more unhealthy than being overweight

Anyway, it was something like that article. Something to consider, anyway. See what you think, and let me know. I'd be curious to know your thoughts.

Great work, Rob! I love that you use an algorithm to predict your weights. What a nerd. Ha ha. Just kidding. Myself, I love a good Excel spreadsheet with monthly losses and averages...a bit more on the simple side. I better step it up so you don't soar past me in weight. :)

That is amazing!!! Congratulations. I'd love to see those projections you are referencing. I'm also hoping to check out the links you just posted but I'm leaving work right now. I don't particularly 'find these forum posts' handy when trying to remember 'who posted what' and following up on it. I prefer Face Book where you get those notifications. Oh well! Keep going Buddy!

Congrats! Funny story, I created an exel spreadsheet to predict my weight loss in the beginning as well!

Thanks, KKD and Chadlius. I know! I'm totally a nerd, a computer programmer for a living. I'm the kind of guy that wishes there was an UNDO button in real life. So yeh, this is very much like me, sadly. But, I can't knock it if it is helping me in this. Sitting at a computer all day has worked against my weight loss for so long, it is about time it comes to my aid in the fight. Hah! Ali, I put the projections in the journal (6 predictions it is making). If you mean more than that, let me know.

I feel you, engineer here. Desk jockey by day, couch potato by night. That is, until 4 months ago ;)

Wow I thought I was the only one with a chart and averages. Mine is not an excel spread sheet or an algorithm it is a chart with calculations in pink and black and all my predictions have been wrong so far, so obviously not very accurate. However it gives me some measure of calm and control to plug in the numbers and do the calculations. I do so much better with a sense of control even if I am not always really in control. Thank You for sharing your journey. I got your message in the inbox. Thank You for sharing and I am writing you back there. I think that your way of tracking it is brilliant.
