I'm married, just celebrated 20 years, with 2 kids (son age 15 and daughter age 12). I work full time in advertising/marketing in Southern California. I have had a lifetime struggle with weight, seriously, since about age 7 or 8. I'm so tired of the battle and feeling like I'm missing so much of life that's out there. My 2013 goal was to reach and exceed my lowest weight as an adult that I can remember (235 lbs., which was 20 years ago).

I met and exceeded my 2013 goal by losing 50 lbs. by mid November. I also conquered my high blood pressure and my doctor took me off medication in September 2013 that I had been on for over 11 years. I was able to buy a pair of jeans in size 16 which I haven't worn since the early 90's when I met my husband. I felt like 2013 was the year of finding ME, like I'd been a big slab of unshapely marble and now I'm sculpting out the me that I am supposed to be. Healthy eating and exercise has done wonders for me so far, and I can't wait to see how much healthier I can be in 2014!

Update: It's mid 2014 and I have not had too much success this year and even some gains, but I keep trying by getting back on track. Hoping to finish the year out stronger than it started!

Welcome, Skinnymax! I agree with the name. I've been a member several years and whenever I tell people about how I'm losing weight, I always start with "well, the name is dumb but the app and the community is fantastic!". Ha ha!

I'm also a mom of two. I started at 270 and lost 50 pounds in 2013. I have been struggling this year and gained a little bit back, but I keep trying. I know I will continue down this path to good health and I will succeed. Feel free to add me as a buddy if you wish.

Needing Support
It sounds like you have a lot of great advice and you admit that it's you that needs to change and get in the right mindset. What helped me achieve weight loss success finally after many, many years, was changing my focus from LOSING weight to GAINING health. I focused on what I should and could eat to get healthier, not what I couldn't eat and therefore feeling deprived. I also focused on how moving my body even a little bit almost every day made me feel better, have more energy and sleep better. Having a positive focus rather than a negative one (I HAVE to do this, I NEED to lose weight, etc.) is making the journey so much more enjoyable and attainable as a lifestyle. And I agree, baby steps are the way to go. Good luck to you! You can do it.

What is your favourite/most used food for weight loss?
I also love 0% Fage Greek yogurt. I have it for breakfast or dessert with blueberries, nuts and sometimes a swirl of real maple syrup or a little brown sugar. If I really want something decadent and I'm craving chocolate, I'll mix in 1 Tbsp of Nutella into 1/2 cup Greek yogurt. It's the best faux chocolate hazlenut mousse.

I also LOVE avocados, and their healthy fats, fiber and potassium are so good for you. I put chopped avocados on eggs in the morning, in wraps and salads for lunch, in guacamole, etc. It is ALWAYS worth it for me to include 1/2 an avocado in my daily calorie limit. Maybe not every day, but several times a week at least.
