Ruhu's Journal, 02 October 2013

Today is my 2nd fast day of the week. I'm trying the 5-2 IF (Intermittent Fasting) plan this week (with IF, there are several ways to do it & I'm trying a couple to see which I prefer). 5-2 IF requires 2 fasting days each week of 500 calories with 5 days of normal, mindful eating of around 2000 calories. Monday, my first fast day this week, went well & was really pretty easy, but I'd overeaten on Sunday so may have still been digesting some of that, if thats possible? Anyway, we'll see how it goes today as this lab rat plugs on experimenting as I continue building my healthy eating & living road. The jury is still out on this IF type vs the daily 8 hour window type... so the lab is at work evaluating as I continue my study of one.

I'm off to workout this morning, then errands, book work & possibly a mani/pedi this afternoon. I was scheduled to me my BIL's replacement at an OSHA meeting this afternoon which has been canceled due to the government shutdown -- no complaints here! On fast days, its best to keep busy & your mind of of not eating, so thats my plan & I'm sticking to it... even if it means I have to book at the nail salon:)!

But before I begin my busy, fasting day, I'll pray --

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

And, through this one day and each one meal, moment, bite & emotion, I'll pray, breathe, log, post & express my way. I'm grateful today for each of glorious you, my family & IRL friends, another day of beautiful weather in the northeast & hopefully another dog walking adventure, and having the health & wealth to live this life I love which for now includes a fast day today. xoxox

Well I am interested to see how this goes for you. I hope you get through it without too much unpleasantness but I just can't believe we have to resort to this to lose a couple pounds..It's just not fair.. Enjoy your nail appointment if you make one. I went yesterday and although I hate sitting I love the results. Happy Wednesday!

Your IF sounds interesting. I followed Kingkeld with interest, when he did his IF and did some research on it. So I will be interested to see how you get on. This 'healthy' eating thing, is all about finding what's right for you. Hope this is regime is the one for you :-)

The best part of IFing for me was learning that I wasn't always as hungry as I thought I was and that I didn't HAVE to have 3 meals a day to survive. It was about learning my body and taking charge of when to eat. Good luck today. I also drank a lot of water on those days.

I am also interested in seeing how this diet works for you. You may want to consider limiting your cardio activity on your fasting days as you won't be able eat those extra calories... just a thought?

I think you're right. When I overeat one day I don't feel the need to eat as much the next. Maybe we are finally growing up and eating mindfully, paying attention to our bodies instead of the plate. You think?

Hi Ruth! I'm pleased that you are enjoying IF and making it your own. I'm looking forward to getting back to basics when I get home. WOE's that are 'different' are not easy to do on vacation. I was naive to think this would be easy! Miss you. Xxxx
