Johanne's Journal, 12 November 2010

I had a meeting this morning and went shopping afterward. I finished buying the different flours, starches and gums that I need to bake gluten free (it took most of my food stamps! This isn't cheap!!!) and I didn't buy the potato sticks I had been craving for days.

My neighbor came over to borrow the car to go to the store, and, at the last minute, I grabbed my coat and joined her. I bought the potato sticks, large can, and a two liter of diet, caffeine free Dr. Pepper. That's the first one I have purchased, other than at a restaurant, since I started this trip.

I brought them home, opened the potato sticks and, over a two hour period, I ate the entire thing. The only saving grace is, I haven't wanted a morsel of food since. I'm over the craving and ever so slightly sick. I slept for five hours after and feel like death warmed over. I'm writing this so that the next time I have some really stupid craving, I will remember. Ewwwwwwww!!! (The Dr. Pepper remains unopened.)

It's interesting how our bodies rebel when give up a bad kind of food or a way of eating. Reintroducing it leads to unpleasant consequences. We've all been there intentionally or not. At least now you know :)

I am a diet A&W Rootbeer girl myself. I very seldom indulge, but when I do, that's the drink for me!!

I HAVE learned my lesson, although I can't promise it will never happen again in this long journey. I AM human. Steph, I have loved Dr. Pepper since I discovered it at the age of nine and it still tasted slightly like prune juice. LOL.
