Simavision's Journal, 07 November 2008

Okay I am going to put this story down here because I think it is amazing and I cannot find the last time I typed it. I am fairly certian is a comment on Loosinsfun's journal.

So I saw this demonstrated twice. Once in a small group where i knew those involved personally, and once in a very large audorium audience.

So the speaker asks for a big strong Volunteer from the crowd. Then she asks the volunteer to hold her arm out at shoulder height. The the speaker pushes on that arm while the voluterr resists. It is pretty tough for the speaker to move the arm at this point.

Next she asks the person to say "I am a weak and pitiful person" 10 times in a row and to sound likE she "means" it. The volunteer got softer and softer. and started to sound pitiful by the end. She then holds out her arm again. The speaker can now push the arm down easily. It's really amazing.

Now she says "Now of course I cannot leave her like this" And has the volunteer say "I am a strong and powerful person" ten times and to say it like she means it. The volunteer started out still kinda soft but by the 10th time she is saying it with conviction and almost shouting it. When the speaker now tried to push her arm down it was totaly SOLID! harder to psuh down than even the first time.

The power of our minds and repetition is not a myth. It quite literally changes your body chemistry! So when many of us advise being positive or using daily affirmation it is because of how much it helps us become healthier not just in our minds, it literally affects our bodies.

I say two because of seeing this demo in October:
"I am a strong and powerful woman" and
"I have a fit, healthy and agile body"

I can see that happening! It's true how the vibes and intentions/affirmations you put out into the universe, it comes back to you (true). I strongly believe it. "the Secret" has some truth in it's message. What's your intention/affirmation, Sima?

Self fulfilling prophecies. Or as Henry Ford said, "Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right."

BUT you can CHANGE your thinking through repetition and that is POWERFUL.

I'm lost. Did you just disagree with me for agreeing with you. And if so does that mean that you don't agree with yourself. And if you don't agree with yourself then... {{head explodes}}

Also, check out the Dr. Emoto "experiments" with water. It's horribly scientifically flawed, but interesting anyway.

LOL no I am adding to the quote emphasizing a point that Ford did not make.

Your journal enecdote acknowledges the importance of language and its effects. Words -- especially INTERNAL words -- possess traits that can alter the quality of our lives. I teach honors courses in high school. So many young people are accustomed to being "STROKED" with language by well intended parents -- that they have become conditioned to EXPECT others to tell them how GREAT they are! I work hard to teach these youg people to do a lot of POSITIVE SELF TALK! My message is as follows: "Work on the INTRINSIC. The extrinsic is just that -- external." I do realize that there is hypocrisy in that observation, because -- for me personally -- Fat Secret itself is a source of extrinsic motivation!

Correction: The word "enecdote" in the previous post should read "anecdote."

I've seen this before when I worked in Psych. years ago. There was one counselor who worked with this type of thing, I think she used it more with finding the true core of a problem though. Anyway, it is a good reminder and one that I think works. It's used in schools in weight training with the mirrors, see yourself as you want to be, in setting goals, if you write it down, it will happen.. etc. Thanks for the post!

"If you think you can, or think you can't... you are right!"

It is amazing the power we have within us. We can actually "choose" to believe in ourselves or not. Great story, you are always coming up with the kewl-est journals.
