SJacqueline's Journal, 17 September 2013

I thought I would give this journal thing a chance today. I have a lot of stress in my life right now and usually with stress comes my emotional eating and bad food choices. I'm hoping if I write it down maybe the stress won't be as bad. I have decided that after more than 10 years of being a business owner I need to go back to work in my previous career. It was a hard decision but I feel it is the right one. Now the job hunt. It has been 16 years since I have searched for a job and boy have things changed! I spent two hours applying for a job last night. I was so frustrating. The application was asking for phone numbers for a place I worked at 14 years ago. I could look it up if the business was still at the same spot but they are no longer there. It was a lot easier to put my resume and a cover letter in an envelope and mail it off. I think it might take a while to find a job right now especially since I have been out of that field for 14 years but I am hoping that my first experience with online applications isn't the normal. I guess I feel a little better after writing, I'll feel even better if I find a good job!

Boy do I know what you are talking about I helped my son fill out a application and it was 8 pages online I couldn't believe it. When I get frustrated I eat too. I got tired of looking, then my friend called and showed me how to make money online. It's still work but I don't have to drive anywhere and making just as much as if I was working for min. wadge. Paycheck is getting a little bigger each week. What field are you trying to get into? Donna

Before I owned the business I was a Medical Assistant and Lab Technician. That is the field I'm trying to get back into. I think the application I filled out was 8 pages too! I really don't like this online stuff. It seems so impersonal.

While I don't always do it, journaling has been a real help to me when I'm stressed or upset. I hope you find the same. And good luck with the job search. An employer will be lucky to have you!

Journaling definitely helps me - getting it out of my head helps me focus with space free'd up. Good luck on the new job. I can't imagine how I would create a resume these days ... probably two sentences 'been there, done that. Phone me if you want to talk more.' Keep us updated.

Thanks everyone, getting it on paper at least will vent my frustrations if nothing else. Bella, my resume is ridiculous. Thirteen years as a retail store owner, then 20 years plus in my previous jobs that have nothing to do with retail. I'm not sure if I'll ever get someone to pick my resume out of the hundreds of other resumes that they will get online. I'm also looking in the paper, maybe I can find something local without the stress of internet applications! Oh well, I'm trying not to stress too much. I still have a job while I'm looking so it could be so much worse. Thanks again for the encouragement.
