Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 23 July 2013

I was stuck. I kept promising myself every day that today was the day. Well yesterday was the day. I decided to shake things up a bit and joined Sparkpeople. Its working. I stayed on track yesterday although I still didn't workout. I did eat well, found some motivation, found some different ways of thinking... I think so long as I keep myself surrounded with reminders of why I want to lose weight then I will stick with it. So if I seem a little less present it's because I'm apparently sparking. At least that's what they seem to call it. Reminds me of spanking. Which could be bad or interesting depending on who you talk to.

Today is going equally well. I'm motivated. I'm trying everything in moderation as my new approach. I'm taking it one day at a time. I'm focused on eating right and exercising and not what the scale tells me. I'm focused on the fact that all this great food is making me gasy. Holy fumigate a cube batman! I will exercise, I will eat cleaner, and.. the weight will come off. It might come off at a snails pace but it will fall off. Hopefully all this eating right and gas will give me more energy to workout.

Interesting idea.. supposedly it doesn't matter how often you workout if you still get about 2 hours of working out in a week. The benefits are suppose to be the same. So if I cant find time during the week but I can on the weekends I should still see the benefits?

Sounds like you're on the right track. Whatever it takes to motivate you is what you need to do. I've heard that too, that it doesn't matter when you exercise as long as you're getting it in. You do so many chores every day, that probably keeps you moving during the week, so try those weekend workouts and see what happens. What do you have to lose (well besides weight)?

I think I joined Spark People once too but found more tools at this site. I also joined Calorie Count and I like that they email me links to daily articles - I've pulled some good tools from there. As you said - surrounded by reminders and different sparks for whenever one seems to fizzle a bit. Maybe that's why those guys have so many different wives.. for the same reason?

Mentally framing your weight loss efforts in a new way was key for me. I read a book entitled "Die fat or Get Tough" and it changed me completely. It's like the heavens opened and for the first time in my entire life I knew why I failed to lose weight all those countless times before. It really is what goes on between our ears that makes the difference and in keeping it off. Keep at it!

Don't totally leave us. Spark People was a bit to sparkly for me. I guess I'm truly just a little old lady. Anything that works for you is good, but we need you too! There are so many pros and cons to exercise. Again, I think it's not "one size fits all". It's all in what fits YOU.

With all the chores you do, and taking care of your children and family, you've got to get in way more exercise than most people, even people who exercise. I hope you find sparkpeople helpful but I also hope that you don't stay away from FS. I'm being selfish here. You're so much fun that I don't want you to go. But take care of yourself and do what's best for you.

I don't want to see you go either, but good luck with your sparking and spanking... ;) Hope your gaseous behind clears up soon - ha!!

Good luck, take care, and do what you need to do. If the spark spanking does it for ya, then go for it. Amazing thing about the internet is that you can join any numbber of these sites, mash togther what you like best and share with site members from whichever one you chose to stay with.

Josie Ann I will have to look up the book and see if I can find time to read it. I love things like that! That is when I can find the time... I need a nanny.

Please just call me Josie. I had to stick my middle name in there. Good luck finding some time! I read most of your journals and I'm usually exhausted after reading them, so I can only imagine how you must be running on fumes by the end of your to-do list!
