Well, I had the surgery on Monday and when I woke up I was in such pain that I wondered what I had done to myself. The first two days were kind of rough, but each day gets easier since then. I'm home now and healing. I am still taking pain meds, but don't require as many before. I'm on a full liquid diet until the 9th. I see my surgeon then and have a barium swallow done to make sure every thing is working the way it should. I can't wait to get off the liquids. There has been one good thing about the surgery so far and that is that my hunger has disappeared.
It was really strange, but I weighed myself when I got home from the hospital and found that I had gained about 6 pounds while in the hospital--all fluid, of course. Since I've been home, I've been getting rid of a lot of fluid. My abdomen was so bloated and swollen. It's much softer now, but I can still tell that I'm holding onto extra fluid.
I still need to make an appointment with my primary physician so we can go over all my medication and make any adjustments that I need to. All is going well so far, but it will feel good to be completely recovered and back to work. I hate being laid up.
