Today's my first day recording my food. I think this will be interesting. In the past I've just cut down my portions and ate healthy food. I've never paid much attention to the calories in food, or even how much I should eat a day.

Diet Calendar Entry for 19 March 2013:

"Healthy foods" can also be high calorie foods, which is why it's important to track what you eat and how much. Take almonds for example. A serving is only 1 oz or a 1/4 of a cup and is 150 calories and I can polish off a cup easily if I'm not careful. :) Good luck!

I was at the grocery store just getting an idea, and I was really shocked. I can't imagine how many calories I was eating before!

One helpful thing you can do is to type in sample meals to see how they add up. If you don't like the totals, just delete the items and eat something else. One of the amazing things is that some of the healthiest foods - baby spinach, cabbage, cauliflower, etc. have the fewest calories. And just for fun - compare 4 oz of sausage to 4 oz of chicken breast. Big difference!

You can do this!! I have been struggling lately, but I think that recording your food helps you stay accountable for what is going on with your weight loss or gain. I know that not losing right now for me has been all about my eating, so seeing when I have really good days is motivating to me, like I can really do this and I can stick to it. Like BuffyBear said, record a meal or snack ahead of time and if you don't like the totals, don't eat it, find something else that is healthier. Good luck!!

Thanks for adding me mars2kids! The hardest part so far today has been trying not to eat the left over food on my kids plates, or snacking while making them lunch.

Do you stay at home with your kids? I would have such a hard time, that's when I'm the worst is when I'm home with free range to eat junk.

So what are you reading right now? I'm working on three different books - one of which is Gregory Macquire's "Wicked" - going to see the Broadway show this weekend, thought I'd study up (basically cram/read the book prior to Saturday!!!)
