DairyKing's Journal, 01 February 2013

Ah, what a glorious morning! Temp is 3F. Tomorrow I think it gets back up into the 20's, and then the 30's by Superbowl Sunday! Eee haa! Ticker went to orange, bought my project truck, and DW didn't do me bodily harm while I was sleeping last night. Life just doesn't get better than that! Told her we're going to go out and celebrate tonight. Looks like another steak dinner to me!

OK, so I know some of you didn't understand my enthusism for the truck. Typically, it's a guy thing, though I've known some women with the same passion. I think I was actually shaking in the last moments of the auction. There were 13 bids in the last 3 minutes, and with 11 seconds to go in the auction, a bid came in that was $75.00 below my maximum bid. Would he or she be able to do a "Hail Mary" bid in that last eleven seconds that would dash my hopes? Apparently not; I won! So, here is something I saw in our local company classifieds that I bought (and DW dearly loved it - bottom of journal entry).

It's also got these white tassle things that hang down on both sides. You can't see them in the picture, because they are tucked behind the chair back cushion. You can either display them or not. It makes a nice accent to the middle foyer in the schoolhouse.

Why do you think that so many of us struggle with keeping the weight off after we have lost it. We know we look and feel good, yet we (like the bible says) are like a dog returning to its vomit. Sorry for the graphical illustration - it just sounded cool! But, we go back to the same thing that got us there to begin with. I know that most people's response would be, " . . . because it didn't involve a lifestyle change." Well, yeah, I agree with that, but what do we mean by that? Some people think that lifestyle change is just giving up what you like, and then when they achieve their goal, they reward themselves by indulging in what they gave up. Here's food to ponder (pun intended). Don't give up what you like; just do it in moderation. As it takes less and less to fill you up (the lifestyle change if you quit when you're filled up), then when you achieve your goal, you have achieved your lifestyle change and there's nothing to go back to. Just sayin. Toodles!

When my husband thinks he is in trouble he always asks me if I poisoned his food. To which I reply you would never know. :)

Nice chair. I love your question. I ask myself that a lot. I do a lot of things I know are not good for me other than eating. I smoke. I quit and I return. I procrastinate. I spend too much money. I actually like what you said about a dog returning to his vomit. That is me. Yes, of course it's related to lifestyle changes but the question is if it feels good to eat healthy and we like how we feel when we are eating well why do we choose to eat things that make us feel crappy? Why do I do it? Is it self sabotage? Is it lack of impulse control? Is it simply the human inclination to do self destructive things? Sorry this comment is so long. It is timely for me. Obviously it isn't being kind to myself when I do those things. Than you for sharing your thoughts.
