gramnbear's Journal, 03 June 2008

It has come to my attention, ever so kindly and gently, that just as I peruse FS looking for journal entries of people here who have become special to me for one reason or another, there are actually those who look to see if I have written! Amazing. It seems that I have been content to leave the journals to the "young people" -- and believe me, everybody here seems to be young! I guess that's a big hooray for those of you who aren't! I am touched every time I receive a message, to think that I am included in all this support that is so magically built across a web no one can touch with friends no one has met. Isn't it something, really?

OK, so I'm going to journal. Some days I may have gems of "wisdom" (what is that, do you think?) and other days it will be just garbage -- the normal day to day stuff that I can't believe anyone cares about. But so be it! I guess I have read lots of both of those written by the rest of you. I haven't read all the diet books, I don't have an accent (hi, Davey!), and I'm not terribly funny . . . but I guess we'll see if I have anything to contribute. Here goes . . .

I note with interest that some of you weigh at any time of day, whenever you "just can't wait" to see the numbers. I can never wait (almost typed "weight" -- oops!) and that is why I weigh EVERY day. I UNDERSTAND that is not for everyone. HOWEVER, don't even think of weighing yourself in the evening, as by then you have added some amount of food to your belly and uncounted glasses of water -- lots of water, right? -- and my experience is that that can alter your weight by several pounds! Just weigh first thing in the morning, when your belly is empty and the water you drank yesterday is gone. That's as close to "true" weight as you can get. Having said that, I believe that sore muscles must retain water in order to heal, as many times when my weight is not where I think it should be, I realize I am sore from physical work and the weight goes away in a couple of days. I thought of telling you that because I worked both Sunday and Monday digging up sod in my back yard for the sole reason that my Doberman is ALLERGIC to it!! Can't stand to see him miserable and scratching all the time, even with antihistamines!

Have a great day, friends! I won't write every day, but I'll definitely try harder!

It was so nice to read one of your journals!! Especially since you are always looking out for us. I agree about the scale!! I would NEVER weigh myself at night. Only in the am on an empty belly :)

I think weighing everday forces you to face the music and stay on top of things!! Although, lately.. I haven't weighed in fear of a gain b/c I have been misbehaving in the food dept. I know it's wrong and don't want to see the truth I guess... can't run forever though, lol. I'm glad you decided to journal, it's good to get things out in the open!! Keep it up!! =)

Yes, I've been there and done that, too! Unfortunately I never discovered the secret to grasping onto that re-motivation so I could bottle it! Worse yet, my husband (FS = "bowler") has recently lost 20 pounds, and after our trip to visit grandkids out of state, he has lost his motivation and now is eating again like there's no tomorrow! I wish I wish I WISH I could get him back on track -- but he has to do it himself. For me, it has always been a combination of the scales AND the fact that my forearms looked like stuffed sausages to me when I was heavy! Now I can see the difference even 5 pounds makes -- speaking of which, I sure would like to get back down to where I was before our trip!

I don't weigh myself more than once per week because it stresses me out too much. The fluctuations during the week drive me bananas so keeping it once a week is better for me. Glad to see that you journaled, gramnbear!

I'm so glad you are making a commitment to journal!! I always enjoy reading your tidbits / advice / wisdom / funnies to our journals. So I'm excited to hear more about what is going on it your life. For the record - I weigh every day, too. Just to see where I'm at; if something didn't work or worked - pretty much the same reasons you do. But I only record it once a week.

Enters the room quietly, eyes the circle of seats, sits on a vacant chair and says... "Hi, I'm Dave and I'm a compulive weigher" [Everyone] "Hi Dave". Its true though, I weigh most days (but only record the weigh in on a Sunday morning... For me it just kinda keeps my eye on the ball so to speak, jaysus, if I am going through all this denial and pain lol I want to be the first to know if there is any shifting of weight!! Mind you, it DOES mess with your head doesn't it, quite often my exclamations can range from 'yippee' 'feck' 'yeehaw' 'poohbags' flatulations are a terrible thing (coughs... did I spell that right??) keep journalling mrs mary lovleywoman... they are brilliant..

Dave, if you have flatulations, you'd better watch when you cough!
