crabby Kat's Journal, 10 January 2013

Hmm, is this a good thing or a bad thing? I had to tighten up my bra straps this morning. Is it because I'm more trim, or because my incredible shrinking boobs have done it again? LOL!

It's a beautiful chillllllly morning here, snow mixed in with rain. I turn on the light downstairs as I head for the kitchen & coffee, pull back the blinds in by the deck, and the chickadees start appearing and looking at me, cocking their heads, looking at the soggy pile of Grapenuts, the empty skins of yesterday's sunflower seeds, then back at me.

They are now happily cheeping as they flit back and forth, snagging fresh sunflower seeds I put out. Beau's at his post, watching the action. We had a good night's sleep and are ready for action.

Well, I'm a little less ready than I could be. My knees are sore from yesterday's Zumba, and I've told my pals I'll be at the gym at 10 for the CXWORX class (some of the work is done on our knees), then I'll stay for Silver Sneakers. I have a double thick yoga mat plus a memory foam bath mat (for under my knees), so I think I'll make it. Oh yeah, Naprosyn time!

My partner wants "something simple, like a piece of chicken breast and a vegetable" for dinner tonight; means I need to find some good chicken breast; think I'll try Whole Foods. And I'll use my meat thermometer & remove from heat when internal temp reaches 165! Last couple times I did chicken breast it was a bit tough; that stuff from Safeway was previously frozen plus I probably cooked it too long.

I hope apricot chicken is simple enough; rub chicken breast with some curry powder & salt, saute, mix up lemon juice & apricot all-fruit spread & add to pan, simmer until sauce thickens. Delish! Cauliflower, broccoli, or cabbage? Partner likes cabbage braised with a little low-sodium soy sauce in the water. Could do a quick marinade of soy sauce & pineapple juice for the chicken, hmmm. I have leftover pineapple tidbits from the pizza I made the other night....

I wanted to make an impossible ham & swiss pie to use up the chopped ham & grated swiss I have open; very simple, for me, with a side of veggies. Maybe I'll make it, too, and have it for leftovers.

I must start un-decorating the Christmas tree tonight! I want to get all the Christmas stuff in storage before my partner takes off south; gotta have room to try my Wii Zumba Core in the living room! OK, I want things all nice & neat, too, and it's hard in a townhouse of this size with a tree in the living room!

See ya' later

Hi, thanks for stopping by my journal. How brave of you to post a pic in a swimsuit - you look fab! And I can't believe how much you do with two bum knees. I have o/a in my knees and am in the midst of seeing a new doc. Exercise is well nigh impossible, except walking. Water aerobics would be great but only available during the day for retired folk, not at night or week-ends for those of us who have to work for the man! Thanks for your encouragement. You look great. Guess there is hope for the rest of us. I would never dream of aiming for as low as that at my age and I am older than you - 56. If I get to 175 lb I'll be delirious and don't really expect to reach that. Anyway, see you around. Oh, I have a cat too, Jacob, that I adore. Furbabies are the best.

Thanks for bringing up your extra thick yoga mat. I have been planning to buy a mat and now I know I can find a thick one. Memory foam bath mat sounds good too. I buy Whole Foods organic chicken breasts in their bulk packaging. I pound them out to 1/2 thickness so they are all the same thickness and freeze most of them in individual quart freezer bags. When I cook them I preheat the oven to 425 and season them with whatever. Cook for 15 mins, check temp, turn and cook for another 5 mins. If they are frozen I might cook them for 20 on one side and then 10-15 on the other. The extra cost and effort is really worth it. I usually make one extra to put in my salads or sometimes 3 extra and make my kitchen sink soup. You also reminded me that I will be taking down our tree tonight. :) You are so sweet to the birds and Beau is a lucky kitty.
