Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 25 October 2012

I just spent two days doing training. The good thing about training is it takes me out of my comfort zone. I was no longer sitting at a desk during the day. I wasn't tempted by the candy basket at work. I didn't have time for snacks. I was on my feet more. Training was good at getting me out of my regular routine. Training was bad because well.. it was basically farm school. I learned how to artificially inseminate cows. I had my arm up a cows butt for two days. I'm short. My arms are short. When I breed a cow their butt is literally right by my ear. A cow farted into my ear. My back hurts from being swung around by my arm. My arms hurt. I'm pretty sure I've been tramatized for life! But... I bred my first cow last night after milking so we will find out in two months if I was any good at it.

During the two days I ate subs from the deli at the nice n easy so those calories are a good guess?? I figured it can't be that far off from subway. By the time I got home I was too tired to eat so my calories were in ok limits but.. I didn't lose any weight. I'm hoping that now that I'm back to my desk day job and back in my groove with coffee available and water.. and chairs.. and nothing to fart in my ear that maybe now the weight will fall off. Or TOM is around the corner. Really I can't tell.. TOM has become a I will stop in whenever you least expect it kinda thing since little man was born.

Today.. I'm motivated by my end of the month countdown. 6 more days. 3 more lbs. Cows farting in my ear. I'm also motivated by the fact that I need overalls for this winter. I froze my butt off during training and a pair of insulated carharts sounded like heaven. Overalls are not a slimming addition to your wardrobe. They look cute on kids, men.. and skinny girls. Any little pudge makes me look like I'm 3 months pregnant. Bring on the crunches, planks, and hmm.. that infomercial for the flexbelt? Not sounding so bad anymore.

Diet advice to self.. when tempted to eat.. imagine a cow farting in your ear. Food doesn't seem as appealing anymore after that kinda stench.

The email said... come eat a donut then sign a card for the senior writer leaving tomorrow. Obviously I couldn't sign the card if I didn't eat the donut! The email said so.. and.. I didn't think of the cow farts as a diet tool until after.

lol.... ok ok.... I was doing good until I skipped dinner last night and stayed up too late so we are even. No more.... I have my day planned out, food prepped and am sticking to it. I know that's key for me. Go do jumping jacks... how many to burn off the donut? lol

According to http://www.nutristrategy.com/activitylist.htm I'm estimating I have to do 45 minutes of jumping jacks. CRAP. I think I just found tomorrows motivation.

LOL! I've had to give cows shots and tatoo their ears and various things, but never did the insemination thing. Every time I want to reach for a snickers today I'll think of you and imagine a cow farting in my ear. I hope you get that goal by the end of the month!!

Well the good news is farming burns 563 calories an hour! If thats true why am I not a stick figure?

WOW -- that is a lot of infomration, lol. I live in cattle country - beef cattle (Nebraska). One of my son's works in the industry and for a while I dated a farmer. All I can say is WOW -- I know how you burn those calories -- that is HARD work. Kudos to you :)

Hahaha about the cow farting in your ear. I'm sure it wasn't funny to you... but reading it! lol. I find a change in pace at work (being more busy) is a great tool for staying on track, being distracted and busy prevents the ongoing thought about food.

Holy shiz! Farm training sounds horrible hahah! Shoulder deep in a cow. Damn.

Did any cows poop on you? I know when our guy would come to preg check he'd be mid-bicep deep in a cow with sh*t all the way up to his shoulder. We never AI'ed but the neighbor kids did! Good luck on 3#s in 6 days.

Yup I got pooped on. Again.. and again.. and again. Luckily I didn't fill my boot with pee. Turns out if you miss the vagina and hit the bladder.. you get peed on.

Good lord... I'd rather be back in Iraq than deal with that kind of shit! hahah

Is the AI just to better ensure a desired outcome or is there some other issue with letting the cows do their own thing? Inquiring citified girls want to know. Good luck on making your monthly weight goal. You are really close!

Had a vet with a very heavy russian accent ask me "how does your horse like being palpated?" I said "probably as well as you would." Russians fail to understand farm humor.

End of the month countdown - thanks for the reminder.

We use AI because it's safer for the cows, with our setup if a bull decided to turn and become agressive it would probably be when hubby was alone with it so it's safer for us, we can breed for better genetics in the herd (If a cow has weak legs or a poor udder we can make sure those traits improve in their offspring by the choice of bull), we can use sexed options to improve the chances of having a girl to 80%... I'm sure there are other benefits I'm just not thinking of.... Using a bull has a higher success rate because they can tell when a cow is in heat better though.

I bet the bull is really pissed! "Hey, that's my job!" I have to lose 3#s by Nov. 7. Let's get this done!
