Asarver's Journal, 22 September 2012

I'm hoping by posting everything I ate today (well, it's late at night, so yesterday?) will make me realize I eat like crap. If I post it public for everyone to see... I really think I have a problem. I'm not hungry, but I just keep eating and eating and eating... and it's all junk food. I ate 3 of the same kind of little treat things. I know I shouldn't, and they aren't treats if I eat them all the time, but why do I eat al of it?! Why do I eat so much?! I don't know what to do ): I need some serious suggestions. I just get this urge and craving for sugar because it's there. At my house, I get it too when I have sugar, like candy corn, but I feel like it's a little more in portion than what just happened. I haven't even been home more than 12 hours, and I've already eaten enough calories for two days. Tomorrow I'm going to try REALLY hard to eat like a normal human being ):

Sugar makes you crave more sugar... its evil!

^^ What sarahduke said, and why so many of us are on low-carb diets. Carbs make you hungry, so virtually all "snack" foods will leave you wanting more, which is why folks like me can graze their way through an entire bag at a time. When I'm keeping to very low carb, high protein, the only way I overeat is if I'm utterly bored, but if I start eating any sort of sugared or bread like products, I binge until I feel nauseous.

Sugar is not evil. But it is a trigger that causes you to continue to consume it. So develop strategies to keep yourself from taking that first bite. A strategy might be never buying candy to keep in the house, making sure you have healthy food in the house, and eating regular meals so you don't get crazy and start wanting something that might trigger you. The only candy I keep at home is the 70% and higher chocolate that comes in the large bars. If you do crave chocolate, it only takes a small piece to satisfy your cravings. In fact, I hardly eat any carbs, and I no longer crave them.

The calorie amount looks fine but you do seem to be eating a lot of carbs/sugar. Maybe if you ate more protein, it might help with the cravings? It should at least give you a more steady energy level. Having a pop tart as one of your first things will probably start cravings that will last most of the day. It always did for me at least. I'm like that too when sugar is around. Chewing gum helps for me. Also, maybe putting all of it in a cupboard at home ("out of sight, out of mind" seems to really work for me) and finding ways to stay away from it in public. If I'm at a party, I'll grab a plate of carrots and see how long I can make them last. If dessert is the only thing left out, then I try to chat with someone away from the food table. Another trick in general for me is to remind myself how much money I'm saving by not buying snacks.

Just realized you're probably talking about the calories yesterday. Still, the main thing seems to be carbs. Starting the day off with some protein for energy and some fiber to fill you should hopefully prevent a large amount of carb cravings.

Sugar is so...tempting! I don't know how to describe it. And it's really only when I come home to my parent's for the weekend. When I'm home by myself, I can resist not buying anything like that at the store, because I know it's bad for me, and I know that I binge on it! It's awful. But when I'm at my parent's, it's like I was never on a diet, and I just binge eat everything in the house. Yesterday (the day that the food is for on this journal, even though the journal was about friday) I tried really hard to resist eating sugar, or as much sugar, and I still ate a decent amount (though I'd like to say I ate less than Friday? not sure...) And I ate this pizza thing as 4 00 in the morning, which I'm not really sure why, and I still woke up starving. I'm okay with cheating a little every few weeks when I go home, but how do I resist these binges? Thank you everyone for your comments, I really appreciate all of this feedback!
