Moderators, please share this in case it's helpful to someone. Thank you.

The trendy high-fat keto diet appeals to many because instead of burning carbs, the body trains itself to burn fat, but if you’re using it to lose weight, then you’ve got the wrong idea. Research from the American Society for Nutrition reported that low-carb diets hardly made any detectable difference in weight loss compared to a diet high in carbs.

While a low-carb diet may help lower insulin levels, which can be useful for people with diabetes, there’s not enough research to prove the calorie-burning effects. And, many keto dieters have reported “keto flu” symptoms of aches, wooziness, and low energy, so it may not be worth cutting the carbs.

Let’s get back to bacon! Mmmmmm. :-) I love it but the thought of eating a pound of it especially at one sitting seems daunting. I could finish off a pound over the course of the day though but then after days of that, wouldn’t the magic of bacon be gone? That would be sad.....

Ohougland you are misinformed about how the body makes glucose on the keto diet, here is a description, Your liver, through gluconeogenesis — the creation of glucose from non-carbohydrate sources such as lactate, glycerol, and glucogenic amino acids from proteins. It is a natural protective process that got homo sapiens through hundreds of thousands of years of feasts and famines. This is the way our ancestors managed for thousands of years, this is nothing new. Really it is the original way of eating. In fact this treats many brain type ailments

I may be misinformed but I still love me some good complex carbs ;)

and there is nothing wrong with that Ohoughland. In fact that is a very healthy way to eat for many. Whole foods! I and many like myself have health issues that make that a bad path for health. I have never attacked someone elses diet or life plan. I just am not that way. I believe in supporting everyone with their goal to improve their health. we all walk our own path.

My body seems to respond well to macros of 33-33-33 or close. I do try to keep carbs complex but cheat once in a while for sure. I'm lifting weights and may need a few more carbs than other folks, but it appears I don't need any more than 1/3 of my calories from carbs even with the weight lifting.

Oh, and I got a serious belly laugh with the "Moderators, please share this...." LOLOLOL lulz to you, darlin'. I'll say it one more time. It's not a competition. Everyone needs to figure out what works for them. That's all. I'm just sharing info. Where's the beef? I'm grilling a modest portion of steak for dinner with a plain salad (lime juice for dressing) and watermelon for dessert. I wish you all good heath and good food. Don't torture yourself. And remember, FIRST, get your thyroid checked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not sure if keto is the same as low carb. My nutritionist wants me too limit NETcarbs(carbs less fiber) to 75, which is a lot lower than I was before FS tracking. I HAD NO IDEA ABOUT CARBS IN FRUITS AND VEGS UNTIL I STARTED USING FS!

There's a lot of good and bad information out there. Studies can be found to support most any particular point of view. I'm not a Keto devotee myself but I have benefited from restricting simple carbs. I have also benefited from restricting calories. IMO, reducing simple carbs goes hand in hand with controlling calorie intake. I respect everyone's right to eat in a way that is best for them...
