I have always questioned people talking about cardio being bad for the diet as it causes you to get hungry. I have never once gotten hungry doing cardio. my stationary bike is termed a cardio exercise, I burn generally between 350 and 500 calories on the bike. I have no urges to eat.

I guess this is a difference between a body fueled by carb energy verus fueled by fat burning. Once I deplete my energy level from my breakfast, the body already knows where to go to get more energy, something we all have some extra of,,,,, body fat. Well unless you are already super lean.

The carb fueled body when it runs out of carbs/glucose is looking for an energy fuel and it either has to be fed, or it has to learn to eat the fat. hense people feel like they are starving when the carbs are burned off.

Well at least this is what it seems like to me. I have excess fat, my body is not hungry after exercise. commonsense, my body is now burning my body fat.

so I guess I have to ask, anyone well established in the ketosis process that does cardio,,,, do you have hunger after your cardio workout?? or is it just me?? I realize new folks to keto may still have some residue carb struggles, so I am hoping someone else long term can comment.

I can only speak from my own personal experience doing extended fasting. Cardio kills my appetite.

I am not keto but cardio doesn't make me hungry either - maybe it just depends on your own body? Just guessing

I’ve been doing doing Keto since January 2017. I’ve broken probably 10-11 days since that time, but overall very fat adapted. I do not get hungry after I run. I actually get excessively thirsty. Is there any way you might be confusing the feelings between the two? I run, bike and swim fasted and really only need a beverage to hold me over until my regular eating period.

Not hungry at all after a fast 18 mile bike ride today. Not thirsty either, but it was overcast. Had a meal after just because it suppose to be good for muscle recovery. Could easily have done without. Love the peaceful aspect of being fat adapted.

Cardio has never made me hungry, but a hard weightlifting session can really rev up the hunger monster.

Can’t say I’m hungry after my long rides 1-2 Hrs but do try to eat some clean protein and antioxidants within 30 min of cardio as I’m told it helps in muscle repair?

okay so I am not unusual that I am not hungry after cardio. I do resistance work too but my calorie burner is cardio. you see so much stuff written about how cardio drives the hunger train and you have to eat more which messes up your diet plan and it just has never caused that effect to me. I wonder where this crazy dogma comes from.

I ride my stationary bike for hours at work without the hunger, I've only really noticed it with intense running for 8-12 miles plus heavy lifting in the same evening.

that I can understand, but in general as a helpmate tool to get fit and to help lose weight, I just don't see the hunger spike and glad to know I am not the only one.

Also, the same hunger didn't hit me yesterday as I only ran 6 miles. I ate a measly 2650 calories and that is a large deficit for me. I was satisfied with that intake. It seems to happen when my burn is super high. It is logical to me, your body should raise hunger as a defense mechanism.

I am not doing keto but it might still be relevant because I assume I hit ketosis when I fast. Weights and sprinting make me super hungry while stuff like Zumba and water aerobics do not affect my appetite at all.

interesting Officially39 that some activities spark more hunger for you. are you fasting when you are doing this??

I haven't fasted much this month but last month I fasted quite a bit. I can do an hour of Zumba 48-60 hours fasted and it does not spark hunger for me. Same goes for water aerobics. Zumba is pretty rigorous for me. My cardio fitness is not ideal. On the other hand, weights and sprints get me HUNGRY. I get embarrassed sometimes because my stomach starts growling really loudly in the middle of weight training. Same for sprints. I will walk for a while, then run as fast as I can for a little. After I run, my stomach starts growling and I get hungry. I tend to not do those exercises as often because of how hungry they make me. It is a catch-22 though. I think they are making me hungry because they are so good for me and really depleting my stores of energy. Or maybe it is all in my head?!

Non Keto here but any exercise makes me hungry!! I’ve learned that it’s best not to just run eat after a workout. Give myself 30-60 minutes for my system to settle and realize I’m NOT starving to death lol. I’ve also found that if I can get a smoothie after the gym it helps. I sip on it over 1-3 hours or until it gets runny then finish the last. 440 calories is a big snack though but it’s 26g protein so I fit it in when I can and the other times I just tell my body it has to wait! Then again most days I’m hungry just reading a book so I’m probably not one to listen to lol. But I’m only ravenous after moderate to hard activity.
