Hey everyone! I am new to this app and am hoping that this will be the one to work. I find myself losing motivation with other apps so I hope this one is different. One question though, what do you all believe is a healthy amount of weight loss at a time? I would like to ensure I am losing fat and not just water weight.

I'm don't know about other plans, but my doctor told me more than 2 pounds a week does not tend to be permanent, healthy weight loss. About a pound a week gives my skin a chance to bounce back. This method works for me because I am doing it through lifestyle changes I can keep up for the rest of my life. I'm really hoping this will be the last attempt at weight loss :-) Good luck on whatever path you choose- you can do it!

Thank you!

I only lose about 3 pounds a month. But I am an older lady and can't exercise because of a bad hip. And I am happy with any loss. I agree with Anonb.. 1 to 2 pounds a week is a healthy loss.

Same. Tried a few things last year but I really wasn’t motivated. Now I’m trying this app and a group of close ones are supporting me as well. It’s been working so far. I would say don’t worry about how much to lose in the beginning... just do what you can and it’ll come :) then when you’re in a routine and seeing some results, it’ll motivate you to do more!

1 to 2 lbs is good. You on the right app. I have lost 35 lbs. with the tools and watching the pictures of others foods which help Me with ideas on meals. I also heard drinking at least half of body weight in water HELPS!! GOOD LUCK HANNAH!!

This app is great, almost as great as the community here! I strongly recommend three things... 1) Log EVERYTHING you eat. Allow the food diary to be your guide as you learn how your body responds to various foods. 2) Post journal entries and allow your journal and food diary to be public so you can get help when you're stuck. And 3) Don't be afraid to ask questions on your journey. We are all here for the same reason -- to improve our physical being. Welcome!

I can lose between 7-10 # a week on keto. Some lose more, some lose less. It depends on the way of eating(diet) plan you choose and how consistent you are to sticking with it. No matter what, FS is the place to be. We are all supportive of you no matter what woe you choose. Just remember to track everything in FS so you have an accurate picture to look back on when determining what you need to do to improve, increase, decrease, etc..

Welcome! You’re going to love it here. I agree that smaller amounts, 1 - 3 pounds per week, is best.

You may want to consider fasting. It is the most expedient way to lose fat and has a ton of health benefits. There is not, as many will suggest, any intrinsic superiority to a slow and steady approach. Good luck!

I’ve lost 2 pounds a week totaling more than 50, and I’m also gaining muscle. 2 pounds is considered slow and steady

Welcome Hannah! My trend has never been to lose more than a couple of pounds per week on this journey but I travel a lot and don’t have a set workout pattern. I’ve decided that this is a permanent lifestyle change and I will never go back to eating the way I have in the past so I don’t expect to gain weight back. I wish I had more time to spend on the full web version of FatSecret. Good shedding to you! 🤠 PS Good people here and some have already responded to you!

my health coach said the average is 1.3 pounds per week. That is hard to hear when you are over 200 pounds (I'm 272). He also measures me using a BMI machine (it measures how much fat and water you lose). It is quite cool. The fat and weight never completely match. My own goal is to lose 2-4 pounds a week, but so far I am not seeing that pattern.

Welcome! Glad you are on board here. There are a lot of different WOE (ways of eating) represented on this site. No matter what you decide on a deficit will get you results. The more body fat you have the faster Keto works at first. For some people it may be 6 to 7 lbs the first month. After that it slows down a bit. With intermittent fasting I was losing aprx 8 lbs a month. 1 to 2 lbs a week is awesome. However, there will be off days and water weight. Depends on the individual, meal plans and life style.

If you have a lot to lose, it'll come off quickly at first. After a couple of months or so, if you can settle into rhythm of 1-2 pounds a week, you'll do great. Don't worry about how much you have to lose or how long it'll take. You'll get there eventually and will be continually improving. You'll have to maintain the weight loss once it's gone, so don't think of this as something to rush through and be done with. It isn't. It's forever. Find a way that works for you, that you can stick to. Don't torture yourself. Enjoy the journey.

Welcome. I've used this app for my daughter's diabetes for several years. Now I'm finally using it to get my own situation under control. This is my day 1.

Everyone is different. Depending on your age, level of activity, and calorie intake. Any loss is a good one. I average about .5 per week. Slow, but steady.
