shadowx1110's Journal, 29 July 2012

I've been looking a lot more into excess skin removal surgeries lately... with my weight and considering I've spent 25 years being overweight, I think I'm going to have a lot of skin to deal with. I'm already seeing lots of wrinkles on my stomach and I'm concerned about it. Exercising and toning will do little for tightening my skin at this stage.

I know a tummy tuck will definitely be covered by my insurance (Cigna), I'm hoping the rest will be too (they do in certain cases) given the amount of skin I'll have. Under the arms especially. I have looked at surgery overseas and though the prices are better I am worried about the quality of care. I'd feel so much better about it if I did it close to home, but that is just out of my price range.

Knowing that one day I won't have all this skin is helping to motivate me and keep my eye on the prize. I'm not looking forward to having to live for 6 months with skin hanging down to my knees before the insurance will approve for it to be taken off (I may try spanx for helping with that though I don't know how well it'll work for my tummy). But you can bet that after going through all of this and the surgery and recovery I won't ever go back to being obese.

Onward and upward!

You should really check out KingKeld (a member here on fatsecret). He has lost a considerable amount of weight (I believe around 175lbs), is from Denmark, and just had skin removal surgery. Even posted some pics in his journals, along with a detail of the entire process. REGARDLESS of what you decide, you can definitely DO THIS...and perhaps he can help you.

Depending on which way they decide to do the surgery, it can be anything from a smaller surgery to a massive one. I had the latter. It's not a walk in the park to have it done, but there are surprisingly few pains associated with it. At least, that's how it was for me. The recovery time is tough, though. You really have to take care of yourself, and if you are anything like me, full of energy after losing weight, then that will kick your butt. :) If you have any questions, feel free to write to me. Also, as jsfantome says, check out my journal. Read from June 18th and up until today (or however long you want). This is what is surgery related. Also, I added you. :)

Thank you jsfantome and kingkeld! I've been looking through your journals and they've been so informative and inspiring! This whole process has been a long one and I'm not even half way to my goal yet.. but being happy and healthy is worth working towards :) You're proof that it's attainable!

Wow, I just read your bio and saw how much weight you have lost! It's such and inspiration!! I also worry about excess skin. Especially in my stomach. I don't think my insurance will cover it though. I have had 3 kids and my tubes are tied. I can just hope that if I ever need a hysterectomy maybe I can get a dr that will give me a tummy tuck at the same time and I can pay the difference.
