Okay here is our heating situation for those interested LOL.

We had the woodburner installer come around to measure up and see what our situation was. He agrees that the chimney needs to be removed all the way in the inside of the wall - right down.

This is actually good news as it means we will be getting a free-standing fire rather than the insert as it is now. Lots more heat and the one he recommended has an area for cooking which will be great in the probable winter power cuts this winter.

The only hassle is that we have to get an approved builder in to remove the chimney structure inside (the chimney above the roof has already been removed, might take 1 - 2 days to totally removed the rest, the installer thinks. Only then can we go onto the priority installation list, which is about 2 -3 weeks long right now!

So it seems it could be another month before we get heating.

My mum and dad are so awesome, they brought around warm pjs and slippers for me, and have lent us their little electric heater. I try not to use it much so we don't have an insane electricity bill, but it helps to take the edge off the cold. They rock! They got the official word that their house will be demolished. :( Please pray for them!

On my facebook page I linked to some more photos of our city, taken by one of our city councillors. I have my own photos that I should put up sometime today.

Am not worrying too much about my weight right now, it's not going in the direction it should, but I think that is an attempt at keeping me warmer lol so I am not freaking too much.

I woke up after 4am this morning - probably by aftershocks. They have been a bit quieter this week but we all know that it won't last sadly.....

Squiggs, hope things work fast for your heating system. Where are your parents going to end up? I guess there are alot of people in the same situation with having homes demolished?

Hi Hun, just continuing to check on you. Glad there is some progress on your heating situation but its still a long way from resolved. Where will your parents go when their house is demolished? Will insurance rebuild it or the government or what? Its an awful situation all round.

Not sure Windrider, maybe in a campervan in our driveway, but maybe their insurance will pay for accommodation. I think there are about 11,000 homes at last count being demolished from the quakes.

Thanks Sarahsmum. Govt and insurance both pay for the rebuild, the govt for the first $100,000 and their insurance for the rest. It surely is awful.

Dont have anything wise to offer you but just wanted to tell you that I have been thinking of you. Happy to hear that you are inching your way closer to getting your heating issues resolved. Sending you many "warm" wishes. Love.
