CMR's Journal, 04 March 2011

Good afternoon, everyone. I’m getting excited for the weekend. My wife comes home tonight and we’re driving up to Central Massachusetts for my nephew’s B-day tomorrow. I actually didn’t want to go initially because my wife is still traveling and the last thing we really want to do is drive somewhere else in our only free time together. Also, even though the drive is under 1 ½ hours, we rarely go up and back in the same day. Our compromise was I drive up in the morning and she will drive back in the evening, so we can spend Sunday doing the first thing we want to do with our free time together **wink, wink, nudge, nudge**.

Now I’m excited to go. I haven’t been “home” since Christmas and I’ve lost about 30 (unofficial) pounds since then. In fact, unofficially, I am knocking on my goal’s door!! I’ve told my family of my weight loss, but they haven’t seen me. My mother is especially eager to see me because she hopes to get inspired to get back on her proverbial horse.

Lifestyle-wise, I’ve ridden almost 33 miles this week and I plan to work out again tonight before my wife gets home. In terms of meals, I ate leftovers for the most part this week and stayed pretty much where I wanted to in terms of daily intake. One day though I ate pecans just because they were there and not because I was hungry.

Last night I pulled down a Weight Watchers steak recipe for dinner (My wife is an on-line member). For the most part, I don’t mind the New PointsPlus system, but I can’t figure it out. They didn’t make the new food formula public for obvious reasons (**cough** MONEY **cough**), and that’s fine. You can’t begrudge someone for trying to be more successful. However, when I input the fat, carbs, protein, and fiber from Fat Secret back into the WW PointsPlus calculator online and it came back with a different point value!!! It’s almost as if something was lost in translation. The problem is, this was a Weight Watchers recipe and it’s not like I re-entered into a formula I got online (which is readily available). This was the actual WW site. I know they are trying to stress fruits, veggies and poultry over starches and red meat, but can’t they be more consistent? Anyways and again, if that’s the worst I have to complain about, I should be so lucky.

Well friends, that does it for my Journals this week. Have a good one!!!

You are really showing us hypothyroid people how to get it done! I mean you don't even have one, so I'm thinking that's about as challenging as it gets. Did you have a goiter and need the whole gland removed? Very exciting to go.show off the new bod to family. You'll have to tell us all about it on Monday. Enjoy Sunday! Hope to be logging some "moto-cross" this weekend myself. :)

Hey, your doing great... and doing what it takes to get the job done. Hopefully the family will notice the lost weight. They probably will. It's those that see you everyday, who really don't. Have a great weekend!

There we are! You sound especially chipper today as well. Glad we're all in the same mood today! I am very happy for you on several counts: get to see your W, get to see fam and they get to see YOU! You are also far along on your goals and being consistent with diet/exercise. There's much to be celebrating this weekend and I truly hope you enjoy every second. Cheers!

@Radiochick - Nope!!! Born without it. They say I spent the first 3 weeks of my life in the hospital because they had no idea what was wrong with me. Also, the soft spot that new borns have? Mine, supposedly, was shaped like an "X". The funny thing growing up is that I was always treated like a normal kid. I was always a little bigger, but I never attributed it to a lack of thyroid or used my lack thereof as a crutch. I think the most vital mental hurdle those with hypothyroidism need to wrap their head around is that it is a treatable condition. It's not an incurable terminal disease. Have a good one, Radiochick!!!

@Matt55 - Seeing my progress is at the forefront of my parents' mind. I have no doubt they will at least say something encouraging. Be good, Buddy!!

@Dsy - Yeah, Yeah, I posted later in the day than normal. I didn't know what to write this morning, so I spent some time on other people's journals and in the forums. This site is addicting... Regarding your coffee dilemma from this morning. I used to be a bigger coffee fiend than I am now, I've found that I can temper my caffiene addition with a few mugs of green tea. Some poeple don't like the taste, but it really helps me.

Hi CMR, 30 pounds should make a big dif in the way you look. I am sure your family will notice. Enjoy your visit and have a great weekend...Bren

Thank you, Babs and Bren, so very much. I fear I mis-wrote. 225 is only my first goal. When I hit it in the coming weeks, I fully intend to set another one. Catch up with everyone on Monday!!
