BEANS!! HELP!! Can some one help me out with this? My sister says that on the old diet you can have beans during induction and has been giving her husband beans since he is doing Atkins also. I don't remember anything about beans from the old book, but I am pretty sure there is no where in the new book that says anything about beans during induction. Buddies, please HELP !!

Green beans are okay, in moderation of course LOL. Legume beans are out on induction.

The only beans that you are allowed to have on the "old Atkins, 1972", which is what I follow, is green beans. No peas, no pintos, no navy, no beans! Sorry to upset her apple cart.

Thats what I thought! I do green beans but have not touched a bean in two months!! Good thing I asked! By the way, when can you add beans back in?

I checked and pinto beans have 29 net carbs per 1 cup serving and black beans ( these two are my favorites) have 25 net carbs per 1 cup serving. Thats enough to convince me I don't want beans anymore. I ate beans at least once a week before. Beans and rice, its what our grandma's make all the time !! UGH !!. OH well, good bye beans!!

Your best bet is to check the carb ladder on the Atkins site and see when it says you can add them back in!

Green beans, wax beans, string beans, and snap beans are all OK on Induction. No kidney beans, chickpeas, lentils, or other legumes. Roasted soybeans (soy nuts) are not true nuts but can be added back with nuts and seeds, Rung 3 of the Carb Ladder. If your metabolism can handle legumes, they are Rung 6 of the Carb Ladder; after Rung 5's whole milk yogurt and fresh cheeses but before Rung 7's tomato and vegetable juices. The Atkins book advises one to reintroduce legumes using small portions, thinking of them as a garnish. The book also advises avoiding 1.)baked beans due to added sugar, 2.) beans in tomato sauce due to the same reason, and 3.) bean dips. Depending on how one progresses up the carb ladder, one might reintroduce legumes in OWL or Pre-Maintenance. Depending on your own body's reaction to them, legumes might become a small portion of your ongoing WOE or relegated to small amounts on very rare occasions. (Glad your question made me dig out my book to get this info....helps me to review these things!)

Hi, happy to add you as a buddy. Congratulations that your son has lost so much weight. He must feel so much better. Peer pressure at that age is terrible. And you also for losing 20 lb. You and your son are making a great team. See you around our journals.
