RiverRes's Journal, 20 April 2013

Sadly, this new weight won't show up in my challenge, but I am back on track and losing consistently, albeit slowly.

It was a weird week. Colorado got a lot of snow and I spent a good part of me week explaining to people how difficult it is to move heavy equipment in the mud and muck. We really needed the moisture for farming and so that I can still water my flowers in July without terrible guilt.

I was overwhelmed with "extra curricular" stuff at work and nearly lost it in the name of charity. My company is very involved in local events and sometimes we get overbooked. The person in charge of our local Relay for Life realized she had committed to non company events that occur the same weekend and she resigned 1-1/2 months before the event. With nothing done. I, foolishly, took it on despite my commitment to our local county fair where we sponsor a day for Senior Citizens (our biggest event of the year for the local community). I am so stupid!

All of this happened last Friday. Our corporate representative only heard that our Realy for Life coordinator was triple booked and took it that we were canceling our participation in the event. I hate conference calls! She canceled the check to sponsor the event and the uproar in my office was intense! I spent the better part of a day smoothing the ruffled feathers of those of us affected by cancer. So, I got on the phone, straightened everything out, and got the check re-issued. Now, I am forming a team from our local office and hoping that some of our 300 people are willing to walk/jog with me so I don't have to do it all by myself. Relay for Life is an exteneded, overnight event and we need to raise a $1000 dollars in just 5 weeks. I will probabbly end up walking for hours and hours. Go Paula!

Diet. I am doing better. The fast food that I lived off of for two weeks is coming back off. I actually gained 3 pounds in just two weeks and I it took over 3 weeks to get it back off. I did learn something - it is very important to stay on top of my weight. It is a lot easier to lose "new weight" than to try to chisel off the pounds I have held onto for years. That is where I am now. Working on that old weight. Yuck.

I did get a boost from my wardrobe this week. My daughter's review of my closet definitely worked to my advantage. I got a lot of compliments from co-workers - and all I did was change up the cut on my shirts, add a jacket, and switch up my shoes. I am a tennis shoe addict since they cover my orthotics for plantar fasciitis. Since my weight loss, I can actually wear other types of shoes and I don't need the orthotics. It is awesome for a shoe person like me. An open shoe. Maybe flip flops. Wahoo!

The family is healing. Oldest son is moving toward college and has had some good job interviews this week. Younger son is going to Vail to participate in the State FBLA conference. Daughter and I are taking advantage of some Mother-Daughter time and are also doing well.

Plans for this coming week: 1.) stay on target with my calories 2.) move more! This has actually been working. I am moving more and it shows. Of course, sitting in a hospital room is not coducive to movement as a comparison, so it really helps to be back in my routine.

I hope everyone has a great week and I am looking forward to planting some flowers. The snow killed my daffodils and tulips and I am so disappointed. I need to see some color!

Paula - so good to hear from you and congrats on getting the gain back under control at only 3lbs; I am going to sooo try to do that myself. Good on you w/the wardrobe compliments; I think I've asked to borrow your daughter ... when's she coming? We got an unexpected frost here too that took out my first batch of flowers - I guess that's why the Lowe's stays in business; early planters :-) Hope you have a great weekend.
