Sandy701's Journal, 07 March 2013

Feeling marginally better from my ranting the other day. Dogs and I were out walking in the cool sunshine this morning; 2.1 miles for them and the full 3.1 miles for me. I'm feeling a tad more tired than usual and my legs are slightly sore...not sure why. Could be nothing....or could be just a slight return of Atkins flu as I'm pulling down those carbs.

Last night, I probably could have done with just a half-bag of the microwave pork rinds, but ate a full bag, so my calories were a bit higher than I'd like for now. I've set up my foods for today to have just a half-bag later...we'll see how that goes. This is a snack that fits in really well for me....crunchy, takes a longer time to eat, and adds fat and protein with reasonable calories and negligible carbs.

Of course, these lower calories (and fat, unfortunately) are triggering a bit of hunger, but nothing I can't push on through. If I can add some fat, I'm sure the hunger will abate. I'm still working out the balance, going back to the kinds of meals I ate early in OWL. Generally, they're heavier in protein and lower in veggies...not what Atkins prescribes, but it seemed to work for me then. The veggies aren't gone completely, just reduced to a VERY large salad. In fact, this is almost a Protein Power kind of menu. Like we all say so often, we just have to work to find what works for us.

I've got a few errands on my schedule this afternoon. Local grocery store has chicken leg quarters on sale, so I'll buy a couple bags and then divide them up into meal-size bags. I need to recycle some cans and stop off at Wally World for a couple things. I should be able to finish off the wrapping of a birthday gift for a relative (needs to be shipped tomorrow) and, if all goes well, TRY to put the finishing touches on our tax worksheets. I also need to review some items I've got on consignment and decide on markdowns so I can take my request into the place tomorrow.

Well, this stuff won't get done by itself. Hope everyone has a wonderful on-plan day!

Well, I wouldn't exactly call you "Little Miss Sunshine" but you do sound like you see light at the end of the tunnel. And good that you have a Plan B to fall back on. Don't know how much of that storm you got in FL but it sure is nice to have the sun back. Hope you get everything done - you sure are a busy lady lately!

Had to laugh Buffy....no, not exactly LMS - yet! We got just the very tiny tail of that system and it only dropped our temperatures....nearly freezing overnight and into the 50's for daytime highs. But, we're on a slow warming trend and should be in the low 70's for the weekend on into early next week. We'll take it even though it means a lot of outside work becomes possible!

Like a lot of us Bren, the to-do list seems to be ever-growing, no matter how hard we work. Only got part of it done today, but fit in a few other tasks that weren't quite that high up on the list, so I guess all is OK. Looking forward to the "Calf Report" tomorrow - LOL!!!

Hi Sandy, sounds like you've got a plan in place, that's half the battle. Hope the sun shines in your corner of the world and warms up your heart.

Hi Issy....we're all just a work in progress....although the sunshine sure does help! Hope there's some in your day today, as well.

Certainly no sunshine in Wisconsin either...at the moment RAIN @ 35 degrees for now, I guess we are expecting over 1/2" or so, tomorrow 3-5 inches of SNOW. WEEEEEE! So glad to hear you are feeling a little better than you were & hope that trend continues. I am right there with you, trying to work out the kinks so to speak. Staying on track/target is proving to be harder than the OWL phase was...IS, I guess, since I just keep having to go back into it as maintenance of any sort seems beyond my grasp, for now anyway. Makes me kind of grumpy thinking about that part. So, I guess I will have to learn to live with my limitations. Boooo!

GG, you know I understand the boo-hiss kind of feeling! But (as Bren reminded me), look at how far we've come. Certainly, if we found our way through all THAT, we can handle a few bumps along the current path. At least we basically know how this whole WOE works and, based on months of experience, we know how our bodies typically respond.....we're not in despair that we've lost "only" 8 pounds in two weeks......or wondering why this WOE "doesn't work" when we've been eating Krispy Kremes, KFC WITH the breading, and drinking wine/beer/alcohol....or starving our bodies on 500 calories a day, only to fail because our bodies NEED FOOD! Despite the current bumps along the way, we DO know what we're doing and have achieved great results....just have to realize that and take credit for it, and move forward!

Sandy...you are totally right, Atkins does work & it works very well, if we work the plan...that's the part I am struggling with. Somewhere, back in the deep mindset of old habits I convinced myself that I SHOULD be able to have ??? (being whatever I know is going to take me over my limit). Old habits/thinking are sneaky like that! So glad you are here to help me re-set to the reality I want! Yes, our bodies need food, but the right food. Here is to moving forward!

I have the same issues, Sandy, and I'm not even on Atkins. You'll get through it.
