Yesterday was probably the worst day I have had in a long time, not food wise but just emotional wise. First of all I didnt sleep and only got about 90 min of sleep all day was just too keyed up for some reason and then work last night was ok, just couldnt get into doing what had to be done. My charge nurse finally at 6am told me to go on call for the rest of the shift and get some rest, so now I am on call for the next hour and I am going to go and get some water and get my son off to school and then go to bed, hopefully sleep wont elude me today. Plus I am off tonight so I am going to stay away from my computer and anything work related. I am logging so many hours it is starting to drag me down, last week I did 62 hours and this week will have 50, granted thats good for the paycheck but I am starting to really resent everyone else that gets their days off and doesnt get called to work extra, guess I just need to learn to say no when they call. Oh well today is a new day and I am going to make it a good one.

Lack of sleep can really cause all sorts of problems; I hurt more, have trouble focusing my attention, get irritable, feel hungry, ugh! I hope you were able to get some quality sleep and are doing much better today.

You might be right about saying, "no" sometimes when they ask you to come in. Take a few minutes to think about why you say, "yes". If you can honestly say that you agree to work for reasons that are more beneficial to you than harmful, then by all means put in the extra hours and collect the paycheck. If you are agreeing mainly for other people or because of what they may think of you, then maybe it's time to reevaluate. What is in your best interest right now? Are you a hard worker, reliable and pretty secure in your job? If push came to shove, could you find a new job? Are you saying yes only due to self doubt? Up until recently I was almost always the last one out the door at work. I regularly worked from home too. I'm a hard worker. I'm also really good at my job. Leaving on time or refusing to work from home would not hurt my career and wouldn't improve my chances for promotion (in fact it didn't even improve my paycheck.) To make things worse, I wasn't even making what I should be for the position. A few months ago I decided that I needed to make choices that were right for me and my family. Some things may not get done or not done as quickly now. But working 50-60 hours when there wouldn't be any benefit to me vs a 40 hour week? That wasn't in my best interest. By the end of summer my self worth and confidence was finally at a level to do something about it. I had to tell myself, "I AM a good worker. I AM highly skilled in this profession. I AM reliable and I DO have good people skills. If my boss doesn't like it, I CAN just carry on as long as it takes to find a new job." In the end it turns out that my boss was concerned I was putting in so many hours anyhow. She was worried I would get burned out and leave. I ended up getting a raise last month and was told she preferred that I didn't work from home because, "If it isn't an emergency, it can wait." Bottom line... do what is right for you. Only you know what that is. Just let it be an actual choice on your part instead of just letting things go however they go.
