While I'm still fairly fit, law school has definitely cut into the dance schedule that got me to that point. Since I started taking the pill, I've started retaining water a lot more than I used to and this last month, I've been dealing with a family medical emergency that leaves me indoors and stress-eating if I don't watch myself. Although I've gained a few pounds, I think I was probably too skinny before so I'm mostly just concerned about keeping it where it is. I walk a fair amount and am learning to bike with my racer-boyfriend, but I really am feeling out of dance-shape and it's really frustrating to me. I'm trying to get myself back into pre-school shape!

Exercising with strained hamstrings
I pulled my hamstrings (mostly my left, but both are tender) and my phys. ther. suggested giving them some rest, elevating, compression etc., but mostly not do any exercise that adds strain to them. I am still able to do most of my ab exercises and upper body work, but it's been harder for me to find a good aerobic exercise that doesn't engage those muscles in a way that becomes uncomfortable. I'm thinking of swimming with a buoy for my legs, but that's not feasible on weekdays. Any other suggestions?

When healthy lifestyle becomes an obsession....
My understanding of psychological disorders is that many of us have a number of characteristic traits of these disorders. The real thing that I remember having to identify when I worked with diagnostic software was whether it was completely interfering with that person's life and happiness. I kind of like that approach to whether something's gone too far or not. Sure, I log my calories most days, bake more of my own food, and pre-plan my orders and restaurant choices over what seems healthiest... but when that's not possible... eh, life goes on. I think once you get into those panic attack moments that you might want to step back and re-evaluate if you've replaced your emotional eating with compulsive calorie counting to deal with underlying issues.

mint chocolate gum...
I am an absolute EXTRA junkie. The key lime is fantastic, but has the shortest lasting flavor in my opinion. The strawberry shortcake is pretty amazing, although the flavor changes to more of a regular strawberry gum after the first bit of chewing. I'm a huge fan of the mint-chocolate gum. It's a great texture, lasts for a good time and tastes wonderful

How often do you weigh yourself?
I weigh myself most mornings, unless I'm feeling particularly sick or bloated. I tend to think of my weight in terms of trending averages, so I don't record it too often (got a little tired of fatsecret announcing to me that I was gaining/losing weight at a rate of 7 pounds a week!!), but think having as many data points as possible is a good thing. Plus making it a habit means I rarely face any unpleasant surprises (TOM aside, of course, but I have gotten mostly mentally prepared for that one). I also track my measurements about once a week.

Talk about holding you accountable! these shoes are crazy!!
Those are absurd and a little fantastic. I might buy them just so I could pick up various objects and see their weights in a semi-autistic fashion. Looks like they only show a weight after a time of standing still, so the fluctuations probably aren't totally nuts, but I'm kind of happier just thinking of my weight in "what I weigh in the morning when I'm undressed" terms more than "with clothes, food in my stomach, and various bags on me at all times."
